Long, thick ABS parts are lifting build plate during print on my Mini+

Hi Folks,

I can print the individual ABS parts just fine.  (.75" x .75" x 6")  If I try to print 4 parts (long, front to back) closely spaced and centered on the plate, the right front corner of the build-plate starts to lift, and it ruins the print.  Adhesion to the build plate is definitely not a problem.

Has anyone else experiences this?  Any solutions?  I tried using those office type spring clips, but the hot-end is super close to the build-plate perimeter during start-up, so the hot end hits the clips.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I've used those clips for that purpose. I slide the front clip(s) on while the printer is doing the skirt.

I decided to make edge clips from ABS.  I'll post a link when I get them working well.

Even with clips, stress is never the less being built up in the part.

That's a bit different from what I ran into. I wasn't getting the plate lifting, but larger parts warping a bit off the plate. The printer is in some kind of enclosure, right? I used the box the kit shipped in as an enclosure for my ABS print project.

RE:

You really need an enclosure. Mine is vented to the outside so the fumes don't enter the room, but only enough venting to do that, not cool the print much. I also use a full height brim as well as a skirt if necessary.

Also, filament should be dried. Water always makes ABS and ASA prints worse in every way.

Mark

I think the enclosure would probably help the build-plate lifting that I have.  The build-plate retainers I'm making are almost finished.  I'm on my 5th version.  LOL.  I'll try that first.

To the other poster, yes, there is stress in the part no matter what.  The tolerance I need won't be affected with this application.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback.

I use Elmer's School glue stick on the build-plate, and I haven't any ABS come off.  That's the only filament I use, so I can't comment on other material.

If anyone wants these build-plate retainers, here is a link.  Thanks again.

If using an enclosure is a problem (ABS is almost the poster child for an enclosure), a shield might help.

A shield?  I'm not familiar with this.  I also Googled it, and came up empty.

See Print settings/Skirt and brim.

If enabled it creates a skirt as tall as the tallest object in the scene. This can be used to protect ABS, ASA, and other materials from warping by creating a micro-climate around the printed part and protecting the print from draft/wind.
