large flat surface - poor quality

Tried to print a large (17 mm diameter) disqus on my MINI, 0.1 mm DETAIL ABS filament, topmost surface resulted in amazing poor quality.  Any idea will be most welcomed

Thank you,

Gabriel

I did, this was my first thought. Re-calibration was very close to the level before (about 0.09 difference)

Please attach a project file.  From PS use File>Save As.  This will save your current session.  Its a snapshot, so will have the model, the 3 profiles you are using so all your settings as well as placement, any modifiers etc.  Its the single best way to debug issues like this.  Once you have a 3mf file saved then ZIP it up and attach the zip.  It must be zipped or the forum software wont accept the file.

We can then rapidly check possible causes and suggest changes.  My first suspicion would be the infill % being too low for the large flat top.  With a project I could just check, without one we have to play 20 questions 🙂

RE:

When I load this file into Prusa slicer,

I immediately get a message that support is not enabled.

It is best to rotate this object 180 degrees (x or Y) so that the four legs are up.

In that case, you can print it without support.

This is how I completed the task in the end, indeed.   Initially ( as shown in the picture) I wanted to have a nice top of the model avoiding contact surface with the plate.  I have used the support as well (using  smart fill option)., perhaps not the last version of the project being submitted.

Unless your first layer calibration is not well dialled in the first layer in contact with a smooth print plate will be superior to even a well printed top.  Its surface will match that of the plater.  So flipped is the only way I would have printed that.  If you do use support your settings could do with a slight tweaking too.  Things like Snug instead of grid, increase of top interface layers to 4 to make removal easier etc.

Also the nature of this object printing at 0.1 layer height is pointless.  There is almost no detail vertically that could take advantage of the low layer height, this would print better at 0.2 or even 0.25.

I hope you are printing in an enclosure ?  Large areas of ABS like that are very prone to warping, although the round shape is the best at minimising that, it will still be a factor though.

Yes, I use an enclosure and generally satisfied with quality. This time was way worse than anything experienced before. Thank you for your observations !
