First PETG print turned out awful

For my first PETG print ever I started with my standard filament swatch. After the great out-of-the-box experience with my MINI+ and PLA I was quite diappointed with the result, to say the least.

Here it is:

The Gyroid infill was never closed until the last but one top layer. Lots of big holes, the worst of them form the bumps you see above (it actually looks even worse than visible in the photo), when they were finally closed. Then you see in lots of places I ended up with more like a mesh than the expected layer, as apparently the lines are too thin.

  • Print: Filament Swatch Re-Remix
  • Filament: Prusament PETG Recuycled 2kg
  • Printer: MINI+ Semi-Assembled
  • Sheet: MINI Double-sided Powder-coated Satin Spring Steel Sheet
  • Nozzle: 0,4mm
  • PrusaSlicer 2.4.0
  • 0.10mm DETAIL (system preset)
  • Prusament PETG (system preset)
  • Infill 15%

No adjustments were made to the presets, as I had the experience they were pretty awesome already. After changing to PETG and switching from smooth steel sheet to powder-coated I have recalibrated the Z-axis and first layer looks fine.

Thank you for any suggestions!

Probably nothing worse than pillowing. For a flat surface like this I'd increase the infill to 20% or 25%, and bump up the number of top layers.

"Pillowing"... of course that has a name. Turned out fine with the 25% infill alone. I did not need to increase # of top layers.

Those "pin holes" seen in the picture above apparently are the same in all the other prints I made as well, I just never really noticed. Apparently that is normal (and I sucessfully tried ironing to get rid of that).

Apart from that, I am still a little disappointed from the overall PETG performance, but I pledge to give that new friendship more time.
