Blossom Vase - Mild Twist

If you print this vase in “Spiral Vase” it looks good. If you don’t use “Spiral Vase” Pursa Slicer adds solid infill to the sides inside the vase. Does anyone have any ideas how to stop this?

That's the whole point.  The model is a solid object.  You need a solid object to be a valid object for it to be printed in vase mode.

If you want to print it normally then just configure the top layers to zero and the infill percentage to also be zero.  The extra solid infill has several bugs opened on the Prusa Slicer github, for example this one https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/10102

However you can use the workaround I posted here https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/prusaslicer/removal-of-solid-infill-on-a-part-with-zero-infill/#post-681172   in the mean time for simpler objects (like this vase).

With complex hollow shapes the simplest method is to design the original parametrically or import it into a CAD that can scale it.

Import once at full scale and then a second time as a negative volume at a smaller scale, say 96%, then the procedure is:

Place the large object.  Move by x=2%, y=2%, z=2% and subtract the smaller version.  You now have a faithful hollow object with 2% thick walls.  If there are steep overhangs you may have to use a smaller percentage negative volume to preserve wall thickness.

Cheerio,

@neophyl Your fix works great!! It took almost 30 minutes off my print time and about 2 grams of filament. I had a feeling there was a way to fix this using a Modifier but I never thought about turning off the bottom fill layer.

When I set the Height Range Modifier I did 1mm to the top of the model. Is it better to go to the top of the model or go a little over or it doesn’t matter?

Thanks for the help!!

RE:

This particular little trick with the modifier was either from Joan or Swiss_Cheese originally I think.  Doesn't matter if you go over the top if you want it all the way up.

btw if your vase mode prints are a little flimsy you can set the extrusion width for a 0.4mm nozzle at something like 0.8 and it will work fine and be much stronger.
