Using subfolders on USB drive is glitchy

I use a number of Mini+ printers in a production setting where it's most efficient to have all the different GCODE files we use (150+) on the USB drive at the same time. Scrolling through all of these is a chore, so I organized the files into alphabetical folders where any file starting with "a" goes in a folder named "A" and so on for the rest of the alphabet.

However, when navigating through the USB drive on the Prusa Mini+ screen, the folders that show up are duplicated, corrupted, or just blank, and clicking on any of them brings up a blank preview that the machine freezes on until the whole machine is reset.

The drives and files work fine when the files aren't organized into subfolders, both before and after reformatting the drives. The issue is consistent across the 18 different USB drives I tried. These Mini+ are running 4.4.0-beta2 firmware.

Any thoughts?

I suspect it is related to this issue I noted in this thread, where something broke in 4.4.0:

I've noticed the same. Some files have weird names, including question marks. Can't find anything wrong with the USB stick.

Hi

I thought the .gcode files could only be stored on the root directory... Am I wrong?

Cheers

No, you can have directories. Only firmware upgrades have to be in the root directory.

Downgrading one of my printers to 4.3.4 and loading the drive leads me to be able to see all the folders (in reverse alphabetical order) and I can navigate in the folders to see the files (in no particular order), so it is the 4.4.0 firmware.

I don't really want to downgrade and factory reset all my printers, so I'll have to go back to the super-long list of files.

RE:

Hi

Thanks @fuchsr foR your confirmation

Just make a quick test with subfolders and no issue at all. No strange characters. Can access subfolders content and launch .gcode. More files are still sorted by adding date even from the root directory

I have 4.4.0 firmware version since last weekend...

Cheers
