USB A Port not functional.

My USB A port has become non functional.   I does not read any USB sticks that I insert.

The issue started when I inserted a USB stick (same one I've been using for last 4 weeks) with the G-code file I wanted to print.  After I inserted the USB stick, I saw a blue error screen (unfortunately I did not take a picture).   Everything was unresponsive at that point, so I powered down the printer and restarted it.   It powers up fine, no errors but no longer recognizes the USB drive.

  • I have restarted the printer (disconnecting power) and no change.
  • I have tried several other USB drives, reformatted them per procedure but still the USB drive does not recognize them.
  • It will not recognize even the firmware files if I were to try to upgrade/downgrade the firmware.
  • It appears that the drive is no longer powered but that is a guess on my part.
  • I have wiggled the USB drive in the port to see if that would suggest a intermittent connection but nothing.

I have been successfully using the Prusa Mini+ for 1 month without issues.

  • It is running firmware v4.3.1.
  • I have made no changes to the firmware.
  • I have no other connections serially to the printer such as Octaprint.

My next step is to disassemble to see if I find any loose connections but I'm not sure yet what I'm looking for.

Has anyone experienced this problem and what are my options to fix it?   I appreciate any insight you all may have.

Thank you.

Did you try another USB stick?

Yes I tried several, and reformatting them as well.   USB Port is non functional on the printer at this point regardless of the USB stick 🙁

First check for loose connections.

If no joy, examine the usb socket itself and its solder connections, you are looking for damaged connectors or broken joints.  You may be able to fix a bad joint with a touch from a soldering iron or you may need a new part.

Cheerio,

I appreciate everyone's input and suggestion.  I was able to work with Prusa support and the root cause was a bad buddy board.  I had it replaced and now the printer is working without issue (and a USB port again!) 😛

Thanks all.
