Run out sensor failure

Yesterday I started a 24 hour print, this morning when I got up the spool was running out of filament and only had a few turns left.  I kept my eye on it but since I have the filament run out sensor I was expecting to experience how that would work.  Well, it didn't.  It's a good thing I was keeping my eye on it because the filament came off the spool and vanished in the Bowden tube.  After giving it a few minutes I could see that the filament had cleared the sensor and was deep in the tube.  I was able to trigger a filament change from the control panel and everything worked out fine.  But I'm now bothered by the fact I have a run out sensor that isn't doing the job it's supposed to do.

Thoughts?

RE: Run out sensor failure

I've never experienced a filament runout detection with either of my Minis, but then, I use OctoPrint exclusively with them. I too hope it is handled in the near future. If you are printing from USB, perhaps your sensor is malfunctioning.

Were you printing from the USB stick or Octoprint? The sensor doesn't currently work for prints from Octoprint. If you were printing from USB have you turned on the sensor in printer settings? It's probably also worth checking that the sensor is plugged into the buddy board correctly.

@gordon-w

So, the sensor doesn't work from Octoprint?  That explains it, all my printers are managed via Octoprint.  I'm pretty sure that the sensor is connected properly, when I inserted the new filament it beeped when it hit the sensor.

Come Joseph, fix this, Octoprint is far too useful to have choose whether I want to use it or have a working run out sensor.

Cheers
