PrusaMINI Maximum Printable Z Height
Hi,
The official Z-axis specification for the MINI is 180mm. I found that I can manually raise the Z-axis to 185mm using the Move Axis function in the Settings menu. I have a object I would like to print that is 182mm high. Before I print it, I wanted to know if anyone tried printing something taller than 180mm?

RE: PrusaMINI Maximum Printable Z Height
Hi Victor,
I am no expert on the Mini
the maximum height is likely to be set in 2 places,
1, within the Prusa Slicer configuration (Printer Settings>General>Max print height: 180 ) (checked and confirmed) I see no reason why you can't try changing that to say 183
2, within the printer firmware (I have not checked because I am not a firmware guru!)
can you try the attached Gcode.
It should go through the normal start up sequence, I guess it will show pictures of the original model, and then it should do a prime line, and a tiny bit of outline on the first layer it should then go to 180mm move to the left then print a bit of filament in mid air, and complete the layers up to a level in excess of 180mm, this will hopefully show whether you can print to 182mm+
It's Butchered G code, I tried to make the printer sweep X10 to X170... but the printer decided not to do that Lol...
the printer sweeps to the left but only to the right on the last head parking move...
this uses very little filament. please chech the Z height in the display,
it may limmit the total height,,,
regards Joan

Definitely agree with Joan's advice.
Wouldn't it be easier to design the model to be printed in two parts anyway?

Thank you for your advice and test G-code. I will try that tonight (when work time is over and hobby time begins) and report back.

RE: PrusaMINI Maximum Printable Z Height
Fingers crossed Victor.
If I had a mini, I would try it myself...
Best wishes, Joan

The model is an existing STL file Thingiverse (Thing 3639693). I was hoping it could be printed as-is so there is no post-processing work.
Your post does make me realize that I could scale the STL file in the Z-direction by 180/182 and likely not affect its overall functionality (its a fun toy for my kids).

Victor,
you could look at cutting a couple of mm off the bottom if that is not going to change the functionality.

Hi Joan.
The test G-code worked as you described, finishing at Z=183mm 😀.
I'll update the Max Print Height setting in PrusaSlicer and it should be good.
Thank you.
Victor

Excellent news...
it didn't use much filament either, did it?

You are correct. I was surprised by how little filament was extruded. About 1 cm arc on the bed after the priming strip. When printing in air after moving to Z=180mm, the extruded plastic did not reach the bed (i.e. <180mm of 0.4mm diameter).
