Prusa Mini+ and Bondtech extruder issue

Hello,

maybe someone can help me out. I got may Mini+ yesterday and i changed the extruder. Now i get a loud noise from the extruder/motor when he tries to load or unload filament. I've done everything right. I really have no idea what it could be.

Here is a video:

Thank you

Maybe you didn’t do everything right? Not sure why it would make a noise like that but did you connect the wires to the PSU correctly? The Bondtech needs to be wired the opposite way than the original. But this could also be the gears grinding do I would take it apart again and double check that the gear assembly is correct.

  • Yes I've wired it right! I've changed the position of red and blue. Like i said, I really don't know what it could be. The extruder is so simply build, but you can't look inside, while he is working.

Did you changed the extruder steps to 415 prior to load unload filament?

The noise is due to speed too fast of the extruder which pushes the filament that can't flow out from the nozzle.

Once fixed double check the heatblock position as it could be now lowered

Sure, there is a little gcode on the bondtech website. Before a load filament I "print" that gcode and the steps are correct.

When you say “print”, do you mean print as in steps 40 and 41 in the online assembly guide? As it says at the end of step 39 that won’t work as the mini won’t remember the new esteps. You have to add them to your Startup gcode as described in step 39.

i was specifically thinking about step 19–gear incorrectly aligned and/or set-screw loose).

could it be that you damaged this gear during installation?

Man kann Dir den Weg weisen, aber gehen musst du ihn selbst - happy Printing 🙂

I know it won't remember, thats why you have to do it before every print. If you not do it, the filament won't load to the Nozzle and you have to repeat loading 2-3 times.

And yes I added it to the start code!

Any solution? I run into the same problem. The stepper motor stops while trying go high speed. At low speed all is good. It only happens while loading and unloading with the Startup Code. Without I have to repeat it many times till some Filament comes out of the nozzle.

No solution, but this is why it is not recommended that you modify the printer until you experienced with printing.

I have been printing my mini for 5 months and I just went to upgrade it to a Bondtech.

Okay we did and we went into some issue 😆 I did some more investigation as follow: I unmount all parts to be sure I didnt make any mistake 😇 and I did or just didnt use enough force to tight the screw down to the motorshaft. The gear was lose but this was not the real issue. I tried many load and unloads just with the motor to verify there is no issue. Than I load manually Filament for and backwards to get a feeling how tight the screw from the latch should be. All went smoth. After that tests I screwed everthing together to do some load and unloads without filament. All went good.
The final test was with filament and gues what? Sometimes it stuck somehow in the extruder. Even when the latch was open. I realy dont know what cause this problem. When the motor "stucks" it looks like the filament do to much presere into the system but sometimes it went smoothly.
Maybe we have to call bondtech?

Hey Guys me again. I found a workaround. Because the issue excist only with the modifed gcode I turn off and on the printer to unload the filament. Without the modification of the teps-per-unit there is no problem at all for my printer. I hope bondtech will find a solution anyway because for multi color prints its not possible to turn off/on the printer to change the filament😕
