Nozzle butted up against heat block

I feel like this is a list of silly beginner questions in a row, but this is the first issue I've come across that I can't solve by myself:

After switching out the original brass nozzle for an E3D stainless steel, I started noticing that filament was melting and pooling above the heat block.  I found out that my nozzle was loose (not sure how I missed that), but I can turn it up to the surface of the heat block instead of having a gap.  I can also see threads in the heat break above the heat block- I thought I saw the heat break spinning as I was screwing in the nozzle (with the heat block secured) but couldn't be 100% certain.

I have been looking everywhere for the correct procedure to fix this, but answers are either very vague at best or contradictory at worst.  Is there a way to screw the heat block without damaging the cables, or do I have to take the hot end assembly entirely apart?  And if so, am I looking at applying more thermal paste to the heat break/ replacing it at that point?

RE: Nozzle butted up against heat block

The important part is to brace the heater block so it can't turn as you insert or remove the nozzle. The heatbreak should be screwed into the block far enough that the nozzle can only be tightened so the hex of the nozzle is about 1mm from the block.

It sounds like your heatbreak is backed out a bit too far, so the nozzle snugs up against the block. It may be easiest to do a partial disassembly so you can work on the hotend assembly. Look up the E3D instructions for changing nozzles, or hotend assembly of necessary. It's fiddly bit not hard.

Ach, just realized you've got a Mini. I'm pretty sure directions are the same, but I was describing the Mk3.

Yes, you need to (partially) disassemble the hotend. It's not too hard.

Just carefully follow the instructions in Prusa's Knowledgebase: https://help.prusa3d.com/en/guide/how-to-replace-a-heaterblock-heatbreak-mini-mini_122769

Here's a schematic of an E3D v6 hotend:

Key is the gap between heater block and nozzle.
