Hello and welcome to the Prusaforum!

Have you worked through this procedure: https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/selftest-mini_112055

@karl-herbert

Thanks.  Everything on the self test pass, except x axis red check mark.   When it does the x axis test makes a loud grinding noise

only when going all the way to the right and stops and all the way to the left.

With the unit off,  sliding the x axis unit is smooth no grinding.

the belts are nice and tight and no signs of any tear or missing teeth on the belt.

Thanks for your help

The only ting I can suggest is checking that the 'drive wheel' is firmly fixed to the servo with the set screw on the 'flat' of the servo shaft. Failing that I'd suggest using the web chat (on the e-shop page) to talk to support and they can work through some diagnostics with you. Support will also send any replacement parts to you if necessary.

I will try that.  It is the hotend assembly is hitting the z axis assembly when going to the right.  The hotend assembly is not

stopping at it's end points and it is hitting the other assembly causing the grinding noise.   I checked all the cables and made sure

they were plugged in tight.

Update     I did a factory reset and everything thing seems to be working normal again.

I hope that solved my problem.    All test pass and it is back to printing.   Thanks everybody for your help.

My MINI will sometimes do that when it powers up and displays no USB found when I have an after market USB plugged in.

I have made it a habit to power up the MINI using the Prusa supplied USB drive, then switching to any of my other drives.  The MINI will then recognize the drive.

Have not had the problem reoccur when this procedure was followed.IMG_6045

As far as I can see from the video, the X-axis timing belt seems to have too little tension.

The X-axis does look loose when the hotend is driven hard against the stop.  I did tighten the belt a while back.  The issue only occurred when I booted up on a Memorex 16G drive with Prusa G-code on it.  The MINI LCD would display  "no USB".   I would re-insert the drive, then it would read ok.  I would start a print and the X-axis issue would occur.  It would last about three seconds then continue on with mesh leveling and object printing.  The prints looked great.

Tried reformatting the USB drives, no improvement.  I even took a drive from my Artillery printer (also a 16G Memorex) with Genius G-codes on it, rebooted the MINI with that inserted, and the printer recognized the Artillery drive.  it would then proceed through its routine normally  and start to print the Artillery G-Code.    The MINI behaves normally all the time when I boot up on the original silver USB drive.  I can then insert a different drive and it would print with no issues.

I guess this is part of why this hobby can be so engaging.

I know the problems. The USB sticks and SD cards are of very different quality. For this reason I usually buy only industrial products and no noname ware. I had bad experiences with noname SD cards and USB sticks on the Mini and MK3. Usually something happens during printing, which is always very annoying.

good luck and happy printing!

@karl-herbert, @mike-gann @phil-5. I remember stumbling across your post here doing research on if i should buy a Mini+ or not. Prusa just released a firmware update today that says

  • X-axis error during Wizard fixed

Hope this may have just been a software bug that has plagued you all.

It doesn't always have to be a firmware error.

The mechanics also have a major effect on error-free functionality, such as damaged or unlubricated linear bearings, imprecise alignment of the guide shafts, incorrect belt tension, loose belt pulley, faulty stepper motors or buddyboard ...

Nevertheless, there is still a lot to be done on the firmware.
