MINI heat block fan replacement PWM and voltage

Hello,

I am looking into replacing the stock heat block fan on the MINI.

I figured the stock fan is 5V.

mini heater block fan

Which one of these would work?

3-pin 5V

4-pin PWM 5v

Does anyone know which one I should buy?

Thanks!

Hi, you appear to have your fan in front of you!,

How many wires does it have?

I suspect the answer is three, but I don't have a mini, to confirm

Regards Joan

I had a broken fan on my Prusa i3 MK2.5S and wanted to replace it. Be aware that you by a fan with same rotational speed as the original. With the replacement (the MK2.5S has only 3 pins) I had lots of issues during printing because of "wrong" cooling. I ended up bying an official fan from Prusa.

@joantabb

Correct, 3 wires, but I was just not sure.

Thanks a bunch!

As far as I am aware the 4 wire fans, need an active PWM signal to be pumped into the fan, to drive the fan motor controller. which is a feature I have not seen on a 3D printer...   but then I have not got my hands on a Mini yet, so have little idea what the 32 bit controller can achieve.

I would not recommend any of the fans you are showing here. With a quick search you can see that the characteristics are way different. If you wanted it for a pc air flow it may would be sufficient but in the case of a 3D printer it will cause many problems with layers.

Key differences:

  • While the rpm on Delta (Mini original) fan is 8000rpm the Noctua has 4500rpm.
  • Also the rated input current on the Delta is 0.11A  while on the Noctua is half 0.05A.
  • The most important characteristic is the air flow which in the case of Delta is 0.262 cubic meters/min while the Noctua has  0.1366 cubic meters/min which is again half. This means it cannot provide the same air flow to your 3D prints.

First time uploading pics 😋

Here are the datasheets from both fans. So I would recommend searching for a fan with the blue characteristics above.

@geoper2

Thanks so much! The Delta fan is really noisy, so I will look for other suitable replacement.

Do you think this one would work? Specs are close bit a bit more CFM and power.

I have these on both my MK3S and Mini: FTSETC Fans.  I also have a Noctua 3 pin 5V on a printer.  The Noctua is quieter and appears to cool sufficiently.
