Is it time to change the nozzle ?
Hello all !
I have a quick question, the quality from my printer has decrease a little bit and I don't know if it could come from amount of filament that the nozzle has seen. I have my printer for a year now, never had a problem and almost 14 rolls of the same filament brand (fillamentum PLA) went through. I only did 1 small print with a glow in the dark filament which is a bit abrasive.
Other point when I do a purge when I switch filament the purge ooze is between 0.5 / 0.6mm shouldn't be 0.4 with 0.4 nozzle ?

You can always try a new nozzle and see.

I wouldn't expect to see much effect on a nozzle with 14 spools of PLA and a bit of glow-in-the dark. But as @cwbullet said, a nozzle is cheap, and swapping takes two minutes, so it's easy to experimentally verify.
I'm not sure what you mean by "purge ooze".

Thanks for your feedbacks I have some E3D nozzle I will swap with a new one and see if it's better.
@fuchsr for the purge ooze I mean when the filament is extruded to purge the remaining color after changing the spool.

Purge is usually wider than print lines...
If your nozzle has worn, don't forget to back off live Z, before you change the new nozzle, then adjust live z after changing the nozzle

FWIW - 250g of glow-in-the-dark filament can damage a soft brass nozzle. It can be very abrasive.

I agree. I am just not sure how much it takes. I printed about 200 grams with no issues.

As usual in life, I guess it depends. I printed a whole spool to make "alien brains", with no discernible impact but I'm sure it depends on brand. Or maybe--I'm just a lucky guy ! ☘️

I just wanted to point out that GITD is very abrasive. A lot of new users tend to think of things like Carbon Fibre fill as abrasive but GITD as "just PLA". Depending on composition, it can be one of the most abrasive materials. To answer the original question: If you think it might be time to swap the nozzle, it can't hurt to swap the nozzle. You can always give the old nozzle a thorough cleaning off the printer.
In practical terms, I think the key is to add a few spare nozzles to your 3D printing first aid kit before you notice a problem to avoid having to spend a day or two offline. Swapping out a nozzle is also a quick troubleshooting step for a variety of printing problems.

That is completely true. But don't throw your old nozzles away - they are always good enough for trying out something new. My MK2.5S has still it's first 0,4 brass nozzle - Lot's of spools of PLA, PETG and ABS. Not long ago I thought it is time for replacing the nozzle. I printed the same part with the same spool of material - one print with the old nozzle, one with the new but I would say print quality was more or less the same. So again I am using the original (old) nozzle - a good, old companion!

Oh, definitely true. I advise not being shy about swapping a nozzle, but you can spend a few minutes recovering them in many cases. I don't do the blowtorch method, but I've gotten adept at doing cold pulls with a hot air gun. I will usually do some stringing test prints before returning one to service just to make sure. I did have a couple that were damaged due to my clumsy unclogging efforts early on.

I change the nozzle and the quality is better ! I also did an extrusion multiplier calibration and now it's near perfect.
Does anyone now why the flow on the mini is at 95 and not the one from the filament setting in prusaslicer ?
