How loud is MINI supposed to be?

Hello,

Today I finally got my Mini. PLA prints look good so far but I am quite horrified by the noise levels it produces and I don't mean the fan, but the movement related noise.

I thought it was supposed to have trinamic drivers but this sounds like my old MK2s with A4982 or when I installed A4988 on my Voron. Definitely not something I can have next to my work desk. I was not expecting completely silent machine but I thought fans will be the loudest thing there.

Is this how MINI should sound like, or am I missing something from assembly instructions?

Thanks

Is the surface that its sitting on resonating?

I have mine on a floor tile placed on some neoprene foam. It deadens the vibrations into the bench.

A video would be quite helpful to locate the source of the noise. With my Mini I actually only hear the jet fan. But it is mounted on several squash balls.

@chillygeo

Here is the recording:

Printer is placed on small table which has a rubber mat on top which is used for washing machines.

On top of that I placed the foam which came from the mini packaging and acrylic sheet on top to have something rigid.

As you can hear there are multiple different noises coming from the printer.

The loudest resonating one comes from when bed is doing the fastest movements.

Then there is a clicking noise... I think it comes from retraction movements.

I used to hear such noises on my Voron when I was pushing the speeds to the limit, but with mini I am using stock Prusa slicer settings so I would expect those would not be beyond machine limits...

The `clicking` needs further investigation. it could be the extruder grinding the filament.

This will fill the teeth, and cause under extrusion in the longer term.

Yeah I was observing the printer yesterday and I am getting quite sure that clicking happens during Z-hop.

The noise started to be bearable when I lowered the print speeds set up in stock profiles. The travel speed was 150mm/s.

That sounds like an extruder click. I would try to take out the retract and see how it behaves.
