HELP: Always prints too low on left side no matter what
Hi there and thanks for your time. I wouldn't post before doing my due diligence (I've been at this for almost 50 hours 😫 )
Long long story short:
- A little while ago I noticed the first layer was very bad on my Prusa Mini+ (semi-assembled, received in April 2022), printing too low on the left side (image of first layer below). I looked into the issue a lot, following a lot of Prusa documentation, online forums, and contacting Prusa support multiple times in addition to my own steps. I'm not going be able to list everything I've tried here but here are most:
- Adjusting the z-offset doesn't help or fix it. It just worsens one side while the other might be fine.
- Noticed that the x-axis arm is lower on the left side (aligning with the print issue) while squaring the printer following Prusa's steps. Because of this I proceeded to square it MANY times.
- I loosened and tightened the 4 screws on the right y-axis beam many times (like in Prusa's documentation). I also loosened and tightened the 3 screws attaching the Z axis to the Y-bed multiple times.
- Made sure the x-axis smooth rods are all the way into the Z block (loosened, pressed, and retightened many times for good measure).
- NOTE: I did the same on the x-axis end but when I tighten the belt it does push the rods back quite a bit despite having the belt all the way in the x-carriage.
- Used a straight-edge to make sure the bed isn't warped (with and without plate).
- Reattached the bed many times. Used dial calipers to measure distance between surface and rods, thickness of bed, with and without sheet, etc to make sure it wasn't somehow uneven.
- Issue occurs with different plates (Prusa smooth and Prusa textured).
- Properly reformatted the firmware from a flash drive and it is up-to-date. This issue started before 6.0 came out.
- Tried bed level correction and even at max settings (100 on one side and -100 on the other) it still had the issue but was slightly better.
- Replaced the heating block and nozzle using OEM parts from Prusa.
- Adjusted the SuperPINDA many times at different heights (it is back to "credit card" height from nozzle tip now).
- Checked that the cables for the PINDA and others are properly attached inside the motherboard box.
- Tested the PINDA as in Prusa's doc (it does detect metal).
- BEFORE issue was noticed: replaced X-axis rod and bearings using OEM parts (and lubricant) because a bearing broke and left a scratch on the rod.
- BEFORE issue was noticed: Replaced the X-axis printed end because I had overtightened it earlier (re printed this part before I noticed this issue).
- After doing all of that and more I finally realized that even when I over correct for the x-axis lean (so the x-axis is higher on the left side) it STILL prints too low on the left side. This tells me it isn't caused by the x-axis lean.
- Related to the last point - I noticed that the Z axis moves down a lot on the left side of the plate. Here is a video (Left_lower_video) demonstrating this with a sticky note on the center Z rod twisting.
- I also noticed (before all of this too) that the X carriage wobbles a bit but only in the center. Here is a video (X-carriage_wobble). I understood this was normal but may not be and may be related.
The last theory I have (yet to verify) is a slightly bent x-rod (imperceivable without dismantling the arm) despite replacing one with an OEM rod. I will be checking this soon unless a better idea comes along.
Thank you for reading through all of this and I really appreciate your input.

Looks like images were not attached to the post? You need to add them in a new one as insert media.

Hey thanks for pointing this out. That’s what I did so I’m not sure what it is. When I view the post both videos and the image are shown. Could it be a file format compatibility issue with your device? I didn’t post the most compatible formats in the world. The image is HEIC and the videos MOV.

I can see only two urls to videos, no images.

did you try XZÂ Skew from https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/hardware-firmware-and-software-help/oh-no-were-skewed-prusa-mini-edition/
especially to visualize the bed level?

also that wobble is horrible, really.
