After 4.3.0 firmware updates, self test XYZ axis always fails on X and Z. Any suggestions?

After 4.3.0 firmware updates, self test XYZ axis always fails on X and Z. Any suggestions? Anyone else experiencing this? Also the first layer test pattern is reverse compared to the first layer test in the previous firmware? Normal?

I downgraded to 4.2.1 with supports help. All self tests were successful.

have a look here https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/issues/1288

I confirm the first layer pattern is now reversed

Some commented that they resolved it by reconfiguring the hardware to work with the firmware update. What is odd to me is that after measuring, my printer is already in acceptable XYZ ranges according to 4.3 release notes. All self tests have been successful in release 4.2.1.

Support said they will contact back. I hope more customers notice and report this issue in 4.3.

I just run self test on my Mini. No issues detected. It is weird that there can be such variation between units.

@bsannicolas

"some" it's me, I realized thanks to failed 4.3 selftest that I wrongly assembled x and z axis on my self assembled clone. reassembling them according to the prusa specs allowed me to pass the test.

4.3 Selftest also compares the elapsed time to a calculated time so if the test still fails even with axes at proper length you probably have a minimal bearings issue or missing motor steps. Try doing bearings and rods maintenance

I had the same unusual results as the video in this post https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/issues/1288

I'll try bearings and rods maintenance and will post results.

It took me a while to notice that some of these problematic units are clones. So on general note:

  • Make sure the travel length is within the range mentioned in the 4.3 release notes.
    • Try to adjust it to the middle, avoid being on the long side.

Selftest bangs the axes (X and Y) agaist limits with quite a force, so if your length is on the long side and something flexes when the moving part hits the limit, it might go over and fail the test.
Also, check that the length of the moving parts is about same as in Original Prusa mini, as if it is shorter, it is able to travel longer thus possibly failing the test. Same can happen if the moving part is longer, then it is able to travel shorter distance and is your guide rod length is on the short side, the test might fail.

This is just general musing about the issue, you probably have already checked all of the above.

Looks like a firmware update will resolve this issue in 4.3.1-RC1.

https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/issues/1182

Will give this a try before adjusting hardware.

After firmware updates, the x axis has still been failing. At least this firmware version stops further axis tests upon failure of the x axis.

Out of curiosity, after recently failing the x axis test the hot end stopped at the edge of the steel plate. Just for giggles I then  went quickly into the Move Axis menu and found that my X axis was at -8, Y axis at -3 and Z at 4. I assume these values are mm. I think my printer is going over the x axis range as far as 188 mm.

What method is normally used to adjust the length of the x axis? I checked that the rods, screws and plastic end follow the manual. Belt tension seems good. Cut the length of the belt?

Just passed the x axis test! The belt was too loose. I had the take the print fan and extruder parts off in order to see that the x belt was too loose. I suppose over time the x axis loosened.
