Why is Retraction not in Filament Settings

Why is the Retraction Settings in Printer Settings? Would it not be better if it were in Filament Settings so it would travel with that particular filament?

You can override the defaults set under Printer Settings in Filament Settings→Filament Overrides.

RE: Why is Retraction not in Filament Settings

Use the same filament in a MK3 and the direct drive extruder retraction value is around 0.8mm, load it into a printer with a bowden tube extruder like an ender 3 and its around 5mm, so why shouldn't it be in the Printer settings ?  Its mainly a function of your physical extruder design.

As Fuchsr points out you can set up an override in the filament profile.  Although they are usually used to override where a particular filament needs more than the extruder.
