Firmware frolics

Why is firmware updated?  It seems like every time, many people have problems when they upgrade.  This latest sounds like the worst yet and I hesitate to use it for my mk3s+.

Are the bugs fixed soon after release, or does that require a new version?

Anybody else leery of upgrading?

RE: Firmware frolics

Firmware updates are how they respond to user complaints and suggestions. In fact many if not most of the modern printer capabilities came from the user community.  If you think about it, this is a good thing.  It is however very challenging to implement new functionally in a way that guarantees perfection in a community with literally thousand of user installed modifications.  In fact I would say it is generally impossible to account for every variable.

I absolutely hate it when a firmware update causes me new problems, but I really appreciate the attempt to make the printer as usable as possible while at the same time adding new functionally.  You can always revert back to an older firmware version, if the new one is broken,  And of course you can skip new updates if you don't need them, at least most of time.

And many users never update firmware (or slicers) until they run into problems - if the problems are not addressed by the firmware but continue to get worse then suddenly the firmware change is blamed for the deterioration ...

Also, there are several hundred thousand Prusa printers in use around the world.  The vast majority of users proceed happily with acceptable printing - most of the ones that visit forums do so only when they have a percieved problem.  We generally have a few dozen issues being aired at any one time - a vanishingly small percentage when you think of it.

If your printer is currently working well you can update without qualms.

Cheerio,
