UNLOAD FILAMENT - critical feature

I encountered something critical for me - I  can't unload and load the filament from the direct menu of the printer, standing next to it (the options are not there).

I am forced to do it from the Prusa Connect site, operating PC that does not have to be next to the printer and clicking some very unnecessary options like naming my filament. This is totally wrong.

Please consider changing it and leaving the physical operations to the printer menu because I can't imagine operating my whole farm and unloading the filament in clog situations from the PC menu.

On my printer when I hit the pause there is only:

"......"

- Tune

- Resume Print

- Stop print

"....."

Also when I hit the Pause on the printer - the nozzle tries to get to 0C degrees - it is not keeping it's temperature.

We are deliberately trying to hide the load and unload menu items, these are not meant to be ran during a pause. The one you should use is in the tune menu under Change filament. It looks like the menu is bugging out sometimes.

Is this change will be included also in non-prusa link printers in coming firmwares or is it just a Prusa Link unique feature?

This is just hard to me because of the muscle memory and a lot of changes with 10 printers, but if you guys seem to think it is better option then I would have to adapt.

hi

I would like to expand on this. It seems to me that the mere presence of PrusaLink often turns the printer into "I'm printing" mode instead of "Idle" mode. I think it's become more intensive lately. But sice I updated to latest 3.12.2 and prusalink 0.7.0rc3 at the same time, plus downgraded from Zero 2 W to Zero W due to unrelated ... soldering issues ... I can't say which of these factors caused it.

So the "I'm printing" mode manifests as having Tuning, Pause etc in the menu instead of Preheat, etc menu. I have often to wait until the printer decides (or prusalink tells it?) to go back to idle mode, in order to preheat from the LCD menu (my workflow is mostly operating on the LCD menu as I have to be near the printer anyway to prepare the print, and then popping up a phone to select a file from prusalink storage to print, which I previously uploaded over wifi).

I'm not sure if this is related to the often beeping for internet connection failure/errors resolved messages discussed elsewhere. I think the "I'm printing" mode happens even if there are no errors.

And so when unloading the filament via command from LCD, there's maybe a 50% chance or higher, that after the unload, the printer goes to the "I'm printing" mode, where it detects the filament sensor no longer indicating presence of filament, and then as if was really printing, initiates the whole sequence of unload/load as when that happens during the print. At that point I usually hit reset on the LCD... but if I went along with the whole reload process, another side-effect was that some extruder movements (I think retractions) ended up "stashed" somewhere and were performed later when starting the print, causing it to not extrude anything in the purge line so the extruder was not well primed, if I recall correctly.

that after the unload, the printer goes to the "I'm printing" mode, where it detects the filament sensor

Hi Vlastimil , well it's little way better describe now 😉 , but i'll be interested to know how many users have this kind of issue ?!! as on my side the extruder slide , ask load filament then goes left and wait no more , so the i'm printing mode !!! no idea ! maybe !! and why it did not each time i unload filament ??

any idea Tojik ?

i am on 3.11 fmw and rpiow2 so i don't think these factors as u wrote can be the cause..

RE: UNLOAD FILAMENT - critical feature

Hi, the reason for this is most likely caused by PrusaLink asking for the mesh bed levelling data. You see, in the FW up to 3.12.2, the way the printer was detecting if it was printing was by finding a letter "G" on the serial line. So when I sent a "G81" the printer just went "guess I'm printing now". This will most likely get a fix in the upcoming FW release.
