It's really unacceptable to be shipping a brand new 2023 device with a wifi adapter that can't top 100kbps.  I mean seriously.

And the ethernet seems to be nearly as slow.  How can Joseph put his name on something like that?

Following with interest, APC have management cards and seem to bet getting complaints as it was 100Mb/s and taking more than 60 seconds to download the log file, so they just released a new card, the main difference, its now 1000Mb/s (1Gb) so stop the complaints, these speeds quested a Kb/s and files over 10Mb are 1980's kinda times... this cant be right !

Many Thanks

I will join you in that camp. I don't know. I was on the "put a linux PC in the printer" side for the last two years. Nobody did, now they want miracles from the software guys.

To be fair, single board linux PCs for a 3D printer. Not exactly possible to get at MSRP over the last year or two. Right?

There are ways to side step the issue, either by figuring out how to print with an incomplete file, using compression and arcs to make the file lighter, or somehow getting the speed a bit higher. We know it's unacceptable and there are people trying to dig us out of that hole.

Sorry for the speeds. Try going from the slicer straight to the printer. I hear the encryption is eating a little of the speed too.

Not sure why they didnt travel down the ESP32 route which is technically more a PC which has WiFI and Bluetooth all on a single IC.  How i bet they just copied the (already used in the Mini) Buddy board to say on dev time....

The Pi Zero riser seemed like a good idea and appears to have resolved most issues, although they do have Ethernet and WiFi but a huge speed bug?

Many Thanks

RE: It is very long to tranfer a file

Is there any way to get a direct response from the Prusa Devs or someone that is working on this specific issue of file transfer speeds?

What are the intended design speed goals for file transfer over WiFi and ethernet, the MK4 is already in end users homes and in use, So I assume this design parameter has to be known what its intentions were supposed to be capable of?

Even if its not performing optimally currently, what is the window of operation if the MK4 is at its ideal file transfer speeds?

If its maximum transfer rate it will Only Ever attain is 200kb/s peak even if its all working perfectly, that's a problem IMO.

And would have liked to have known that unambiguously in the specs upfront before purchase!

Its 2023, No One would ever expect transfer speeds that are that slow on a new machine, nor is that suitable with file sizes that are commonly used. Thats not an inconvenience, thats unusable with normal file sizes people print!

Where and who can we ask for a informed answer what we are to expect from the file transfer speeds over the built in wifi and ethernet?

I have no problem waiting for software knowing it Will be fixed (Prusa has a good record), but its important to Know we are not buying crippled hardware and that the feature is capable of performing well when it is finished.

An unofficial response: we do not like it's slow. someone will most likely be at it for as long as it's going to be a big sticking point.

I will forward your message to slack tomorrow.

Regardless, the official way to ask questions is through email [email protected]

Thank You!

Hope I am using the correct tone.

Just would like a little transparency on this specific detail!

For me this is among the Biggest most important features why I wanted to upgrade from the MK3 to MK4 is to make the file transfer seamless, fast, and strait forward!

If we can just drag and drop files from a Mac to a auto mounted MK4 directory and/or directly from prusa slicer to the MK4 painlessly that would be what we dream of!

Sure there are other ways, but to have a native solution that consistently works automatically when the machine is turned on would be Wonderful!

I would not expect a mount option, we do support dragging into a browser window or uploading straight from slicer.
There is a big difference between using a Pi to do network communication and (forgive me, don't know details) writing a part of, or all of the network communication from scratch. There are definitely hardware limitations. I suspect that the ethernet speed will not improve all that much, but where there is a need, there is a way. G-codes getting smaller as a result is a wonderful thing with lots of positive side effects for everyone, even though the base situation might not be great

You dont support sending direct from Slicer to a Mk4? well thats odd as i have spoken to others who do this, exactly the same as PrusaLink on the Pi...  Granted PrusaLink DOES support drag and drop to the browser (see image)

Many Thanks

You must have misread something there. Am I not clear?

RE: It is very long to tranfer a file

I did mail them, was hoping for some window of operation that we should be able to expect...Not sure there is any more info there they are willing to give?

But maybe I am misinterpreting it, or the question is not clear enough?

>Hi, May I talk to someone that can quote the Intended Finished File Transfer Speeds over WiFi and ethernet for the MK4 exporting .gcode to the printer please?

I would like to know the hardware is not fundamentally “crippled" with low file transfer speeds Permanently.

With the FlashAir card that Prusa supports on the MK3, the file transfer rates are ~ 4 megabytes per second, making wireless file transfer nearly instantaneous and work fantastic!

Will the WiFi module that comes with the MK4 ever come close to those types of speeds to make it usable?

Thank You

I am afraid that although the hardware is ready for a way better speed, the firmware of the printer is not. Keep in mind that the prusaconnect is still in beta, and we will do everything we can to make it better.

Issue resolved

I recently upgraded to Firmware 5.1.0 and all my Prusa Connect woes have been resolved. Very pleased with the experience now.

Sometimes it can still fail, seems to really depend on the quality of the internet and the closeness to europe from what I've seen. But glad it works for you
