Purge more between filament changes / loading

Other than manually saying Yes . No . Retry when adding filament or changing filament for a color change. How can I increase how much filament is purged ? I usually need to do 4-5 purges when i put in a new color in to get proper color and would like it to do it automatically for all colors than me sitting idly by waiting to hit No, 4 times.

Thanks!

I'm not sure you can increase the amount of purged filament without modifying the source firmware, compiling it, and flashing it to the printer.

Perhaps you are using some unusually difficult to purge filaments, or your eye is better than mine, because often I can hit "yes" after it loads in the filament. Some changes, like going from black to white, I have to hit "no" once...but never more than that. Certainly not 4-5 times.

When you are changing filament, does it start purging filament on the initial load, before you ever hit "no"? Or does it not start purging until you hit "no" a couple of times?

I'm going to agree with @jseyfert3. I rarely have to say no to purge more. The first thick filament it lays down on the front of the bed before printing also helps to purge an old color. I only have to say no once if it is purging a different type of filament with a different temperature to get any hint of the old out.

@actionandpositivity, does your extruder click when purging. Perhaps the tension is not correct or the nozzle is partially clogged.

Mark

@actionandpositivity, when you purge, does the filament drop straight down or does it curl at the nozzle? If it makes a blob at the nozzle it should eventually fall with a smooth line of purged filament going straight down from the nozzle behind it. If it is thin or comes out with a curl, the nozzle is partially clogged.

Mark

First one, but when i switch to white for example it takes a good couple purges to get true white otherwise it's a murky 2 tone color. Darker colors are fine, lighter more finicky. White, Yellow, etc

I have to do the same when I am switching to white filament. I find it worse when I used a darker color filament like a dark blue before the white.

RE:

I purge 3 times, as that is what it takes to go from say black to white. Other colours aren't as visually noticeable however if you want to be sure when switching different types of filaments 3 squirts is probably a reasonable middle ground.

At some point it doesn't hurt to check that little PTFE tube in the hot end. In the past I have had other printers that were a little tougher to purge due to a deteriorated lower end of the tube causing a bit of a gap for burnt filament to hang around, causing partial clogs as mentioned above.

I enjoy the purging process myself lol maybe I'm weird, I like the little coils it makes. You can collect them and trade with friends.
