MMU2s and the mini

I know that PRUSA said that they will not support it, maybe this is related to bowden setup. Filament changes will take "ages". But on the other hand theoretically it should work, shouldn't it?

I don't think the board will have the extension headers needed. Also the firmware should not be ready to use the MMU.

What should work is the Palette 2 if there is also the possibility to use USB tethered printing on the MINI.

Do not just buy the pallete2. If you want multi material you should just buy a printer that can do that.

The pallete2 has serious design issues around the buffer design which cannot be easily mitigated by software. Both the buffer capacity and the button sensing the level are plain wrong. It looks like a cool device and their focus is mainly in aesthetics, but it will limit your print speed to 25mm/s if you want to be safe for buffer underflow->pressure to extruder -> fillament snap -> failed print.

Whilst it is a cool idea I would wait at least 2 more hardware iteration of the pallete before considering it as a viable alternative to the MMU version of prusa.

@minos197

Thanks for providing some inside view for Palette2. I also prefer the MMU2 design. Although both are not easy to handle.

@daniel-k7

MMU2s was released over a year ago. It's in stable state but major firmware reworks are still required (and on the way?). So don't expect mini+mmu2 ready for sale in 2020. Maybe some people will make it work and there will be some proof of concept. But with the new 32bit board and new firmware we are at square one again. Means it will take couple years till we get same stable firmware like for 8bit.

I'm not sure if it's appropreate, but Chris Basement has a MMU2 running on another printer using marlin.

I dont know what firmware the prusaprinters are running, but here is the youtube link.

My main interest was to print bigger multicolored signs, right now i print the different colors seperately and superglu them together.

All I can say is that my experience with the palette 2 on my Makergear M2 has been very good. My regular print speeds are higher than you indicate as an upper limit and the system has been good and solid for me. There are many that use the system with their MK3 and MK3S printers with good success. One could jump over to their Facebook group and monitor the posts and sample prints there. To each their own!
