Mini eats USB sticks?
I've never had a memory stick fail or get corrupted (knock on laminated wood) outside of the ones that I use on my mini. It REALLY eats USB sticks. I've gotten cheap and expensive ones and eventually they all fail to be recognized by the two mini's that I have.
Is it that the USB sticks are run hard and hot in this application?
Is it just me???

No, you are not alone in this.
One of my sticks has already broken.
Both my PC and the mini no longer recognize this stick.
In trying to find out what's wrong I didn't think the mini could be the culprit.
But after seeing your message, the mini could be the culprit.
The general question is now how is it caused and what can you do about it?

The same happened to me. I have a clone board and the problem appeared right after the last firmware update, not sure if there is causality between both events, but maybe it is a software related issue (?)
Also the printer is only three months old (12d printing time), so I presume heat on the stick might not be the one to blame. I would expect heating as a potential hazard for prolonged "exposures"

I bought a very low profile USB stick that remains in the Mini. I simply upload files through the web interface to the Mini. Works a dream. Constantly changing USB drives is not really that great 😉

I've also seen this on 2 prusa minis (i had 2) and on both of them the printer made a really annoying error noise near the end of the usb drives life where the printer's firmware was crashing. I've since left that job and can't refer to the emails I made with prusa on the topic, but I don't remember getting a satisfactory outcome

Mine has eaten one. I must get around to installing the wifi module, but daren't mess with anything while it is running smoothly!

@bertuk -- what type of USB Stick lets you upload files via a web interface? Can you send me a link to it please?
I've had one of my sticks fail recently and would like to prevent this from happening and your solution sounds promising.
Also, does anyone know of any restrictions that Prusa has placed on what USB Stick we buy to replace the ones that came with the printers? Some I see are high speed, others are high capacity (1TB), etc.

He probably meant using Prusa Link Local on Mini, which allows you to upload files to the printer without the need to remove USB stick. I use it from the very beginning with my printer and it works like a charm.
About USB stick he uses, it looks like a plain basic small USB stick from Intenso Mirco Line https://www.intenso.de/en/products/usb-sticks/micro-line - it's just very small so less chance to damage it physically by hand when it is connected to the printer.
About USB sticks, just get something small that is let say about 128MB - 2GB in size , USB 2.0, you really do not need anything more.

Some pendrives have special firmware on them that better handles incoming writes, and thus they get better lifetime.
I've got very good experience with SanDisk Extreme Contour USB (I got it as a present in 2008r) and it works for this day and I surely copied/deleted it multiple times since then, but that was for a lot of files like movies/photos/documents to be transferred between the computers. Not sure how it would work with Prusa Mini+, which tends to do a lot of small writes. sometimes it is better to get multiple smaller in size and cheaper pendrives (instead of getting only one with bigger capacity and thus more expensive) and replace them with unused one when the current one dies. But better to stick to the tested brands such as Sandisk/Samsung/Crucial/Adata/OCZ/PNY/Corsair/Lexar/Transcend, and don't buy them from really cheap sources, because this means they are forged brands.

My mk3 eats sd cards I believe it's because there getting written to and read by the printer because that's how the power panic work

First of all, I only use USB sticks of better quality (I hope).
I usually buy kingston or sandisk. Cheapies have never worked long for me.
Almost immediately after purchase of my Mini (mid 2020),
I was not content with the prusa usb stick that came with the printer.
It sticks out quite a bit and an accidental hit can destroy the USB port or the whole buddyboard.
So I use a low profile SanDisk 16Gb USB 3.0 stick that hardly protrudes.
This particular stick has seen quite some abuse as it used to be D: drive onmy laptop for two years prior.It hasn't failed me yet.
