fuzzy skin inaccuracies
We just received a MK4S, and I'm trying out the fuzzy skin parameters to make our prints more like SLS prints. The fuzzy skin that prints does not match the preview in PS or the parameters that I put in.
The first test has a thickness of 0.08mm and a distance of 0.1 in PS. The print has displacements accurate to the thickness parameters, but they occur every 2.0-3.0mm instead of 0.1mm. What am I doing wrong? Is there a minimum value for each parameter, and if a value is below that threshold, does it revert to a safe value? There's also some horrible vertical banding. The file was imported with .stl imperial units import.
Printer: Mk4s
PS version: 2.9.1
Filament: Overture Matte Grey, Panchroma Matte Ash Grey
Profile: Default Overture PLA, Default Overture PLA
Print settings: Modified 0.25 SPEED @ MK4S HF0.4, differences below
Here is PS preview
The prints (yes it's a different object, the print parameters were the same, only the .stl was different)
the calipers say 2.81mm (great job forums for autosizing my images... super helpful...)
RE: fuzzy skin inaccuracies
I don't have an answer for you, but I've used fuzzy skin a couple times and it didn't look anything like your result. Something is going on for sure. Your texture appears to be far more aggressive than the set 0.1 mm.
Have you run any small test prints with varying fuzzy parameters yet? That would be my first step. Make them hollow and set fuzzy skin only for the outside so you don't waste material or time in the testing.

RE: fuzzy skin inaccuracies
I know this comment isn't so helpful, but I have to agree with TeamD3dp. The few times I've tried fuzzy skin, the print looked very similar to the preview. So something seems to have gone wrong when you printed it!
RE:
thank you for the replies. i'm running some tests prints now:
Printer: Mk4s
PS version: 2.9.1
Filament: Overture Matte Grey
Profile: Default Overture PLA
Print import: default .stl import (mm units)
Print settings: 0.25 SPEED @ MK4S HF0.4 (default profile)
Modifiers: Boxes with fuzzy skins per picture
I found that PS really slowed down after placing more than 20 modifiers. Task manager showed PS using about 40gb of RAM when i placed 24, and PS could not export gcode without freezing the whole computer.
After this test, I'll update the MK4S firmware (just got a notification that it needs to be updated).
Also will try using the galaxy black prusament that came with the printer in case it's a difference in the filament.
If y'all don't mind sharing, what are your print settings to achieve an accurate fuzzy skin print?
Some other, potentially critical, information. The MK4S was purchased preassembled, and prints neatly without fuzzy skin.
