Camouflage and other patterns with mmu3

I would like to make a digital woodland camo pattern on the surface of a flat object. 

I would love if you made stencils for this kind of surface finish,  sort of like the insert objects. 

Or do I just paint a different camo with the multimaterial wand?

Take this just as food for thought. I don't have an "easy" workflow and it sounds like a standard job for e.g. Blender.

One way is to take a pattern ...

... and extrude it into a solid:

Take positive and negative intersection (cut / common in FreeCAD) with the object:

Export as .step with multiple objects:

Avoid stupid sign error during printing (insert Douglas Adams quote on Zebra crossings)
