Filament Runout

MK4S in the Prusa enclosure.   Ran out of filament mid print.  Notified on Prusa app and so on...

Went to the printer, which was asking if the filament unload was successful.  Press 'Yes' and it asked me to remove the filament from the sensor.  No buttons or options available, no skip or ignore button.

To remove the stub of filament, I had to first remove the tube from the top of the extruder (this being in the enclosure).  Then feed the new filament, and the print carried on perfectly fine (apart from the new filament purge rather close to the bed and had to pull it out of there quickly).

Is this the expected behaviour?   Removing the tube isn't very easy; fairly tight fitting and risk of moving the printhead.  Why couldn't the filament sensor be ignored and firmware allow a purge of the old and then new filament through?

Seems like the printer firmware doesn't know about enclosures having a feed tube for the filament.

Never noticed this mentioned before, which seems odd.

RE: Filament Runout

I have the metal tube fitting only finger-tight on the nextruder. Unscrewing/rescrewing the fitting by hand requires less force than pushing down on the collet to remove the tube.

RE: Filament Runout

Good idea.  Probably could have done that, but the collet worked ok.  TBH I usually just fuss over any expected filament run out and manually push the new filament to follow the old one, so the printer doesn't notice the change.

Still seems strange to have to (very slightly) partially disassemble the printer during a print though.
