Frequent x y calibration

Hello all. Just finished my MK4S kit in about 12 hrs.  Great fun and great printer!  What strikes me however is that when i start a  new print, the printer does an x and y calibration.  12 times left, 12 times back. Noisy and disturbing. Is this something in the latest firmware?

Actually there are lots of people with the same problem, there also is at least one ticket on Git Hub.

But nobody knows what causes that, if Prusa may intend it to be so or whatever.
Prusa does not comment anything or if a newer firmware may solve the issue, which really is anoying.
It seems to me that this happens only with the last 2-3 firmwares, older ones do not have this problem, but they do not support the MK4S.

RE: Frequent x y calibration

I have watched my MK4S in an enclosure over the last few months.   I find when there is a temperature change in the environment, it does the re-calibration of XY,

If I power up and it multi-hits, it will not do it again as long as it is a cold start from then on.   Low use mode.

If it is all warmed up after printing something and I keep printing, it usually re-calibrates on the 2nd print, but from then on as I keep printing only 1 or two normal starup hits.    High use mode.

That is what I see predominantly.   Is it a problem? not usually.  It just takes about 10 extra touches to re-calibrate or set 0.   It adds time.

My printer at one time had a constant problem with many hits on Y.  The rear belt mount on the bed had come loose.   I converted to an ASA single piece belt mount with Y axis adjuster on the bed.  It doesn't come loose now.   The PETG part with a single bolt mount was the main problem.  Currently Prusa makes the Y axis bed belt mounts out of PCCF, but still has a single bolt for mounting.

Mine does this occasionally, doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason, but it doesn't seem to hurt anything.  Does the homing  and moves on to printing.

I don't think it's harmful but it's irritating as hell. There's an open GitHub ticket and I suspect Prusa will fix it in a firmware upgrade.

I agree it is irritating but at least good to hear it is not only my printer that is doing this, and that it is not an indication there is something wrong with it.

The same thing is happening on mine multiple times; the bed hits max, then the X-axis does the same, and then it starts the print preparation procedure.

I found the same problem on mine, but accidentally I discovered that if after a printing I push the bed full to the back and the nextruder full to the left side of the printer, then in the next print it doesn't perform the X Y calibration routine. Something funny.
