Printing stright MK3S code on MK4
Hello,
at the beginning, the MK4 was not fully compatible with the MK3/S gcode, creating problems to people that used in production their tested sliced gcode for MK3/S.
I remember that several months ago, Joseph in an interview got the question:
"Will people with a 3D farm be able to print directly all their existing archive of customer's sliced g-code on the MK4 ?"
and he answers they will!
Since then we had several updates on the MK4 firmware and also in PrusaSlicer, so I supposed that now the compatibility was 100% or .... 🙄
Today I tried to print a special calibration object that I have only in g-code format for the MK3/S.
I got a warning error that the gcode was not sliced for the MK4. I click on 'continue', but then it raised a message that the file contained incompatibility code, and I aborted the print. I even manually changed all the starting code of the file, copy/pasted an MK4 gcode from another file, but even then, the MK4 raised an alert that the code was sliced for another printer! But this time, I clicked on 'continue', and after some mess (my fault, I copied the probe code two times..) it started to print.
- Did someone had a better experience printing directly MK3/S g-code on the MK4?
RE: Printing stright MK3S code on MK4
I tried to print files that came with the MK3s a half dozen times. On every attempt, I clicked passed the "not fully compatible" warning, but then MK4 bed leveling failed (or timed out) after very slow attempts.
So while the nozzle didn't try to smash through the heat bed like it apparently did with older firmware, I still wasn't able to print the MK3s files.

So the time spent to manually edit the g-code adding the MK4 startup was useful. I succeeded in printing the piece, even if after the end of the print I stopped manually the print from the LCD, since I had the impression that the print was terminated but the printer was not cooling down.
RE: Printing stright MK3S code on MK4
After upgrading firmware to 5.0.0-RC, I was able to print both old and new MK3S gcodes just fine.
The LCD prompt had something like "MK3S compatibility mode" on the newly sliced file and not on the old file, but they printed the same.
