Printer thinks it finished but partial print

Today I came home and found this rugged box only partially complete, but the MK4 thought it had finished in the expected time.

I’m thinking that the only explanation is that the filament stopped extruding.  I cannot unload the filament - it’s stuck in the print head and the extruder doesn’t seem to move it at all.

I saw a recommendation to heat the head to 280 and clean it with the cleaning tool that came with the printer.

What could cause this?  I can only guess that the filament broke inside the head and jammed, and the extruder gear wore it down so it can’t grab it anymore.  Any other suggestions?

This is my first real failure after 38 prints so I’m inclined to think the printer is set up reasonably well.

Loosen the idler.  Heat to about 10°C aove the printing temperature and pull the filament out manually.  Take a fresh end of filament and push it down through the hot end manually - it should go easily if not a couple of cold pulls usally removes any remaining clinker.

Cheerio,

I was thinking about this some more as I restarted the same print today.  It occurred to me that maybe my enclosure had gotten too warm causing issues - this post https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/postid/577840/ seems to support that idea.

The enclosure was already at 30.7 C after 30 minutes of printing, so I propped one door open by about 100mm and it seemed to be dropping when I left.  I would really like to avoid nozzle clogging - took me a long time to finally clear it.

Yes, that sounds like a clogged nozzle, try what Diem said.

What's the material? If it is PLA than the case is clear. PLA is extremely prone to clogg in any kind of enclosure that doesn't have extremely strong ventilation or its doors sufficiently wide open to prevent even mild heat up of the enclosure chamber. Keep both doors wide open, right from the start, if you print PLA and experience cloggs.

I was using 3D Printing Canada PETG, it has 10C lower temps than Prusament but I don't think it's especially susceptible.  I've been using the default Prusament PETG profile so maybe I should also lower the temps to what they put on the label.  Could have contributed to the clog.
