Filament / Printer profiles

I'm working through some difficulties printing Prusament PLA and I discovered that the PLA profiles for Prusament is 230C for the first layer and 225C for other layers. Is this correct? I've tried removing all profiles and re-adding but they're the same values.

I discovered that lowering this temperature is allowing me to get past the first layer. Do the profile temperatures change if using IS?

RE: Filament / Printer profiles

Yes, they do. Default non-IS is 215/215, default IS is 230/225.

They increase the temp, I believe because the faster filament flow means the plastic doesn’t actually get as hot, so to maintain the same extruded temp the nozzle temp needs to be higher.

What sort of issues are you having?

Until I lowered the first layer temperature, the Prusament PLA Vanilla White, Galaxy Black and Galaxy Grey wouldn't stick. It would start the layer off good then it would just start dragging the filament around on the nozzle while still on the first layer.

And now PLA is not sticking - at all. Lays down maybe a dot, but just accumulates on the nozzle.

Cleaned sheets with dawn. Filament is dried, I'm on to my 5th different roll. I don't think it's the filament. Any ideas on what to try next?

Maybe this thread can help you.

There it is believed that the Hotend fan blows too much on the bed and that there are problems with adhesion.

It is worth a try.

RE:

So, for input shaping I have been using Geeetech Highspeed PLA. No issues, other than it being a bit wispy but complete acceptable. It brushes off easily.

I have started running some .25 Nozzle X minis that have come out stunning with Poly Terra Charcoal Black. I have decided to use my Prusament PLA Galaxy Black and this will make my 3rd evening trouble shooting it after finally getting it to hold without glue by heating the bed to 72 on first layer and 70 after.

The odd thing being I had a few successful single mini prints but when I tried more .... problems.  It has been a mix of extrusion multiplier, going pretty hot and dialing back fan speeds.  Retraction second.  In general, I feel the new hot-end fan and print fan are much stronger and making the dialing in of the nozzle x more of a pain in the butt. Running a Cut Mini test 8:45 print .... test now that appears to be going well.

I haven't cleaned this sheet ... since Wednesday and haven't spray anymore more glue on it since yesterday afternoon and ran at least 5 30-minute retraction tests. All stuck great.    Z.8 lift .1       45 retraction speed (only 35 deretraction but not checked in filament- in printer/extruder all other info is in filament.) 1.5m min trav.

Temps 228 FL  223  OL    Fan 70 - 90

Seems the best so far.  I would note for me, under 222-layer adhesion tanks the further down I go, to where around 218 I start to get other issues. it seems to be in-line with potential 10-20 + for nozzle x.  Though I would say on the MK3s+ it was only about 5/8 I would also say I couldn't snap the posts at 223 except for where the base met the posts.

I would note: my input shaping has been done with the standard mk4 .4 nozzle. oops   I babysat this print a while. at 14% in I got a couple pops ticked the temperature up to 224 now.   .25 nozzle x. I'm sure it has something to do with retractions and fan speed.  Meanwhile, the MK3s+ is churning out the 20 hours of a 74 hour print.

Revo ObXidian .4 @ .17 Layer height.  This guy.  Can't believe how they are coming out.

So, as it now stands ... after painful several days fiddling ... the starting point for me MK4 V6 Adapter with Nozzle X.25   Getting consistent acceptable results

With

Prusament Galaxy Black:
Extrusion Multiplier is back @ 1
Noz 225 -220
Bed 75-70

THE BIG THING
Cooling
Fan speed:  Min:50 Max:75

Overrides:
Length: .8
Lift:  .1

Retraction Speed: 35

Print Settings:  .07 Ultra Detail .25 base with the following changes.

Layers and perimeters:

Perimeters 2
Avoid crossing curled Overhangs

Infil:
30%

Gyroid

Support Material:
Organic

Top Contact .15
Rect. Grid

Top Inter 1

Bottom Same as
Branch Diameter 2.5

This is now my "fine-tune" starting point for minis.

RE: Filament / Printer profiles

Really proud of this one. you can see the end curls on the bow. And I have slowed down my support removal process. 4 cut stl from witchsong on MMF @ 1/3 original scale.

now to fine tune this Prusament pla.
