The filament sensor stops working after feeding filament

The filament sensor on my printer is behaving strangely. It seems to drop out randomly. After a reset the sensor works again. In the meantime I have checked all the cables. Had everything taken apart and put back together. It seems like something software or firmware related. I'm using the 4.7.2. version at the moment. Do users have this problem and possibly a solution?

A common culprit is dust or fine whisps of stringing interfering with the mechanism.

Printer is just a few days old and I use a filament cleaner. It is  something in the sensor construction/design that is wrong I think. I rebuild it already, but no success.

Poking around with a piece of filament and a reset makes the sensor work for a few times again

Take a look at the sides/edges of the printed parts - a light touch with fine abrasive paper might be enough to de-snag it.
