MK4 Filament stuck again and again

Printer: MK4
Purchased and built: Mid July, this year
Filament Printed: 5249g to date
Filament Used:  100% PLA (various types/sources)

I'm basically unable to print right now. Intermittently, I'll get a "filament stuck" error, where it'll push it out, I'll feed it back in, then sometimes it'll print.

I can hear a CLICK CLICK with the feeder having the issue pushing the filament through just before it goes to the "filament stuck" error.

With this much filament printed, should I expect the need to replace my print head already?  Curious....as this is what I was going to do to try and fix.

RE: MK4 Filament stuck again and again

When I got my new Prusa XL, I printed 2 kg of PLA in toolhead 1. Then I put the same filament in toolhead 2 and the same thing you described happened.

I then tightened the screws until the rattling at least decreased. I turned off the setting in the ‘Stuck filament detection’ menu.

Are you printing with 0.4 mm? How high is the heatsink temperature when the error occurs? What does the filament look like behind the idler? Is it deformed and compressed?

It might be a partial clog - do a cold pull.

Or the wrong extruder idler pressure - sometimes due to filament with out-of-spec diameter - tweak idler pressure until the grip is good but also check filament diameter with a micrometer (three places over a metre and average) and if wrong enter the true diameter in the slicer so that it can calculate the correct extrusion.  If it's been clicking for a while open the extruder and blow out any dust build-up.

Cheerio,
