MK4 extruder "noise"

I'm still in the "getting used to" and learning phase of my MK4 (kit version). So there's still things I need to "tune" and configure. The print quality seems fine - less issues than I have with my MK3S and without the MMU it's always given me very little trouble printing. So all is good there.

But I hear the gears turning when the extruder "extrudes". In this Short Video you can hear the sound the extruder makes, and I wanted to know if that's normal. The print quality is great, I don't see over/under extrusion etc. but it sounds like "something isn't right". It would help if others can tell me their extruder "squeaks" too.

Thanks.

Does no sound normal, something is rubbing, I’ve reprinted main plate and swivels to eliminate unexpected noise but during assembly seen quality was not to good .

mini+ [bondtech dual drive, revo, reprinted with PA11-CF and ASA] lives in photo tent.
mk4 upgraded to S with mmu3 and gpio (with some parts reprinted) lives in prusa enclosure.
Voron 0 ldo kit with dragon burner and…

During printer assembly on factory parts I've seen that quality was not to good.

Reprint fix noises.

I had all parts printed before the kit arrived having seen posts with very poor print quality. My received kit had non of the print issues I'd seen and comparing them to my prints I found no issues.

To me it sounds like the metal gears more than anything. I don't expect plastic to squeak like that. Thanks for confirming the sound isn't normal. I'll try a reassembly and see if I manage to resolve the issue.

RE: MK4 extruder "noise"

I just checked my MK4 printing with 0.6 nozzle, and the gears of the Nextruder even with the big amount of filament to extrude with a 0.6 are absolutely silent.

No noise, no vibration, nothing. When I initialized the 0.6 nozzle, it was my first time to print with a so big nozzle, and when it loaded the filament, nothing came out! Even after 5 time I clicked Extrude more on the LCD, no filament was exiting. The matter that the Nextruder was so silent, was bringing me to think there was something wrong and the whole mechanism was blocked, but it wasn't... I could feel the filament entering and not exiting. At around 8th time the filament finally came out from the nozzle.  😊

I remember that during the assembly I noticed that the gears could be inserted not exactly parallel to the mounting plane, and due to the small tolerance they were noisy, so I retried the assembly until they were fully parallel, centred, and they did not produced notably sound.

It is worth that you dismount the block and check your Nextruder gears and motor axe alignment.

You're right there's even a special "tool" to mount the gear - but there's no way for you to tell if it was inserted right or wrong. There's even a bit of grease which it then tells you to wipe off again 😀

Nice to know it's not supposed to squeak like that 😀
