RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

I don't think the bed-adhesion/first-layer is quite right. I can get better adhesion and first layer with my Mk3S.  It is nice to just throw down a different sheet and start printing, but I feel like the height is 25-50microns to high- and there is no way to adjust it during a print?

The other is a small one, but I make my own filament and a batch had spots that went to almost 2.00mm -which will jam in the nextruder throat- and the printer will just keep purring along, not extruding.  I though the system would detect that and stop?

I get that, but if I'm buying a printer that is being marketed as being wifi right out of the box, and offer remote controls and monitoring, I do not expect to have to buy an rpi and set up a whole new thing...

Lucky you.

I am uploading a 34MB file to the printer right now, and it took 23 minutes... That's dialup speeds from 1995 in my book.

Yeah, there's no getting around it, the network throughput on MK4s is terrible, and it's a design choice, not something individuals can control. Some folks won't notice or care, but, I definitely do.

For me, first layer is pretty fine.  I thought the very first thing I printed seemed squished a smidge, but, everything since has been pretty good (when I tend to the sheet properly, though even when I don't, I sometimes get surprised that a print doesn't fail).

My issues is a loud buzz/grinding sound that so far support hasn't helped with. I've tried live chat several times. Two times I got through to a person and their suggestions didn't help at all. Several other times the wait time was SO damn long I forgot I was in the queue and when I remembered to check, the chat session was closed. Kind of lame that is the only support path. I don't know that my issue is serious, but, I want it fixed all the same.

You can send them an email at [email protected] but it's a loooot slower than just using the chat.

I am wondering why I am not having upload speed issues.  The files upload fine to my XL and Mk4.

Could you time how long it takes to upload a 40-80MB gcode? Maybe you just plain don't notice it, which is fine.

Mine are fine too... Not blazing fast but fast enough that I don't really care.  I have excellent WiFi coverage in my house so I'm sure that helps too.

I just did a test with a 25MB file and it took 6 minutes (from within PrusaSlicer)

That's... super atrocious, yeah? A 30MB file took me about 3 seconds to send to Octoprint. I have mine wired, so no WiFi at all. The same file to the printer, when wired, took over 5 minutes (I don't have the exact timing in front of me, just some loose notes). Over the lifetime of a printer, that adds up quickly.

25MB in 6 mins??

You should be able to measure that in seconds, not minutes! As someone mentioned above, that's dial up speeds from the 90's!

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

I uploaded a 35 Mb file and had similar results.  I did not sit there with a stop watch.  I came back and it was done.  I will measure one this weekend.   I would say it was under 10 minutes and maybe under 5.  My router is sitting within 5 feet on the printer in my workshop.  I plan to hook it up with ethernet but don't think my son has done that yet.

Definitely not fast.  Print is going to take hours though so a few extra minutes doesn't really bother me.  Be interesting to see how the speed improves with the pending v5.0 release

And for how long have their promises been hollow? Their promised fixes haven't done crap.

The last time they said a speed increase was coming in firmware, it happened so I see no reason to doubt them this time.

Since updating to the latest 5.0.0RC firmware, the X axis homing issues from the 4.9's RC's have cleared but now my network transfer speeds over gigabit eth have slowed to an embarrassingly slow, glacial pace. A 40mb gcode file should not take 45 minutes to upload over a wired connection.

RE:

Some Issues I have with my unit:

  • LCD is shifted about 2mm to the right so quite an amount of the display area is hidden unterneath the front cover. No immediate solution from support so far (apart from sending me another display unit thats as bad as the original one lol).
  • occasional "Y-axis homing error", not sure if my belt tension is perfect tho because the tuner app doesn't give stable results
  • standard IS profiles are not that good.. for example they decided to set flow to 100% instead of 95% (as with the mk3) so I get overextrusion quite often.
  • Filament sensor gets stuck quite often. There's a 5% chance that the steel ball in the filament sensor gets a little bit stuck and that's enough for the sensor to detect some filament that isn't there
  • The amount of small dots of oozed out plastic that the nozzle leaves on the printbed during the homing routine is quite annoying. I even have difficulties removing them on the PEI sheet and have to scratch them off with a blade.
  • ..some other issues like spontaneous restarts, layer shifts, ridiculously slow upload rates via PrusaLink. But all that hopefully get sorted out over time when the Firmware gets updated.

Overall the experience is not so very satisfying. I have to spend a large amount of time to tackle all the issues. The sole reason to spend so much money on a printer was to buy a fire-and-forget machine. The mk4 for sure isn't such one.

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

Been out from the Prusa forum  while.

Any solution to the noise?

I lost my mails so I need to start the process with Prusa again, or if possible continue where I was.

There is no change in noice in my printer, from my own guess it is the X axis making the most of the noice....

Not fun to have to use the mk3 instead due to the not acceptable noice from the mk4.

Mk3S+, Mk4 MMU2S never worked properly

You could try this solution: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/english-forum-original-prusa-i3-mk4-assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting/horrible-squeaking-developed-after-6-days-of-perfectly-silent-printing/#post-674389
I reprinted the part mentioned there with PC-Blend CF and it seems to me that the noise has been reduced somewhat (I have not printed much yet since the replacement). Anyway the parts look much nicer now! 🙂
