MK4 sheets management

Hey hey,

Is there any thing to do before switching from a smooth sheet to another textured sheet with these new MK4 models?

I can't find the sheets presets menu like on the MK3S. I'm sure this is due to the new "force probe" but I wan't to be sure before crashing the golden toy... 🙂

Thx

Best Answer by K7ZPJ:

You just change the sheet and you are good to go.

The MK4 takes care of determining its sheet thickness with the probing.

Mostly true, however, I found that the load cell is not always happy with textured sheets. I usually adjust live Z down manually by -0.2 or so when using textured sheets, to avoid adhesion issues.

Stupid noob question: How do I do that? Slicer or printer?

How do I do that? Slicer or printer?

You can do it both ways. I prefer doing it on the printer:

From https://help.prusa3d.com/article/live-adjust-z_112427

The Original Prusa MK4 and Original Prusa XL are equipped with a loadcell, which will calibrate the first layer automatically. In case you would still like to fine-tune it, you can long-press the knob while the first layer is printed.

In Prusaslicer, you can set the Z offset under Printer Settings→General→Size and Coordinates. It's probably okay to do it in the slicer if you use only one sheet and one printer, but as you need to create a separate printer profile for each printer and sheet, it can get messy.

This morning I was printing a few things on both satin and textured sheets, and without adjustments a bunch of small circles on the first layer all came off (and yes, the sheets are cleaned with soap as well as IPA). Manually sdjusting live Z down by -0.025 resulted in perfect first layers.

hi, im wondering. In the article it says, that the offset done during the first layer will be permanent. (MK4)

So , even after the printer calibrates the next time, the value will be applied on top  ?.  Whats the default than ( =0 ?)

just curious, because i was fiddling the last days with the tune menue and was wondering why suddenly i was in a Z-adjust menue. 🙂

That's not correct. At least in my hands, any manual adjustment gets lost on the next print.

I think what happened is that they just slid the paragraph about the Mk4 and XL into the text originally written for the Mk3S and Mini. So it looks like the sentence you were referring to relates to the Mk4, whereas it actually relates to the Mk3S and Mini, on which any Live Z adjustment is indeed retained over time.
