Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
Everything went together smoothly and all self-tests passed. But when I put the filament spool on, both the nextruder back plate and the cable 'pigtail' hits it during the x-axis test. I even tried the 'narrow' bracket available here: https://www.printables.com/model/556491-spool-holder-mk4-narrow
Any ideas?
RE: Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
I think we are going to need some photos of you can manage please?
RE: Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
Can you post a picture showing the whole printer as I am struggling to get my head around what I'm seeing
RE: Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
Something looks a little off there, I’ll grab a couple of pics of mine tomorrow for you.
RE: Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
That's what I thought but could not put my finger on what, hence asking for a wider picture
RE:
If I don't install the spool holder and just put the spool on some bearing mounts to the side, it works like a charm (see attached as it grinds out one of the test files).
This bracket is just barely hitting the nextruder carriage. (I'm holding the spool holder roughly in place just to show where it would go if it weren't being a jerk.)
RE: Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
Ok, so these are pictures from the build of my mk4 kit and this first one shows the front of the X-Axis, does your look like this without the extruder assembly attached?
RE: Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
Yep that's what it looked like. I followed the assembly instructions and every step went together as directed; no screws needed excessive force.
What's the clearance on your assembled unit between the pigtail and top beam and the back of the nextruder and the top beam?
RE: Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
That is a job for tomorrow I’m afraid - my printer is in an enclosure in my garage. I’ll have a go at getting you a photo tomorrow.
RE: Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
No worries. Honestly since the printer is working perfectly otherwise, I'm hesitant to do anything. Mounting the spool to the side is far from the worst that could happen. It's just odd.

Between the back of the nextruder and beam is about 6mm (cannot be more accurate as it is in an enclosure which makes measuring difficult)
Between the top of the pig tail and the beam is about 4mm
RE: Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
The problem is that the filament holder used is not original to the MK4, but the printed holder was downloaded from God knows where. The original holder has a lower part that is much smaller than the one in the photo, and the X-axis cart can pass easily around it. Throw this bracket in the trash and use the original one.
RE: Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
Ah cheers, saved me a job there

RE: Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
That looks like a holder for the MK3 and earlier. The MK4/Nextruder has less clearance to the frame and needs a filament holder mount made specifically for the MK4. Similar problem for the MMU parts. The MMU mount that clips on the frame must be thinner to allow clearance.
RE: Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
Can anyone point me to the correct Mk4 bracket? I've had a devil of a time finding it (the one I printed claims to work with the Mk4, but clearly doesn't).

https://www.printables.com/model/581332-spool-holder-for-original-prusa-mk4
That should be it
RE: Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
Although, to be fair it is not the same as the one that came in my kit

RE: Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
It's just a matter of whether you built the printer from a new MK4 kit or upgraded from MK3. If you built from a new kit, this holder was definitely included: https://www.prusa3d.com/cs/produkt/spool-holder/
RE: Filament spool bracket blocking x-axis?
Agreed, mine was a kit build and included the bracket
