What does "Everyone is a maker only I am a printer" mean?

This may seem like a dumb question, but what does "Everyone is a maker only I am a printer" mean? It seems like there is a story behind it, or maybe it's a philosophy.

Everyone is a maker only I am a printer

Yes what does "everyone is a maker only I am a printer" mean exactly? Seems like some sort of inside knowledge or perhaps it does not translate well ?

Those shirts can legitly only be worn by pregnant women. They are actual walking and talking 3D printers.

The meaning becomes clear when Josef Prusa wears it.  😀

RE:

a maker is someone who "makes" stuff and there are lots of diy-enthousiasts around.
I guess this slogan is to make clear that the owner is not a "regular diy-person, .. but a special 3d-printing-diy-person.

well, that's how I explain it ... but I must admit I felt and feel the same way as you when I read this slogan.
What bothers me the most is "..only I am ..." as if the owner of the T-shirt, hoodie is the ONLY 3D-printer .. and that simply is not correct AND sounds arrogant.

Afaik, it's "bad" english. Maybe it's a kind of street-lingo I do not know.
I would have used something like:
"Many make but I print"

Every person who uses a 3D printer ist a maker but not the other way round. Makers in general apply some sort of craft or special knowledge to make something useful. Somewhat like hackers (the true meaning of the word not "a criminal with a smartphone"). Nowadays, thanks to Prusa3D, 3D printing is as easy as downloading an STL file, slicing it and print it. On Printable there are even ready made gcode files, no slicing involved. So, in my humble opinion (I can't stress this disclaimer enough), a 3D printing person, such as myself, is to a maker what a proverbial scriptkiddy is to a hacker. This may change drastically once someone does the cad-work to designs models.

This is why I never considered buying one of those T-Shirts even though I like the looks.

I've always viewed this as: "If you want to tinker and fiddle with a 3D printer as an artform go ahead, but if you want to buy a 3D printer that just prints, you buy Prusa. end of story"

I will also add that a Prusa works as a kit very well to start but with all the open source information, you can learn to tinker at the same time.  The forum is also a great source of information to improve both the printer and the process.

"Everyone else is a maker" as in everyone else actually makes things. "I am a printer" as in I print things other's put the hard work into making.

RE: What does "Everyone is a maker only I am a printer" mean?

I think it goes back to a quote from the last president of Czechoslovakia where, after naming the airport after him, he said "Everyone is crazy, only I'm the airport!" When Jo Prusa was traveling around in the early days of 3D printing, he coined the phrase that we now see on his T-shirt. Perhaps it was homage to Václav Havel, someone he respected or just popular Czech culture. But it is not something that is meant to single-out someone or sound better than anyone else - just a slight misunderstanding about the roots as it was translated between languages and cultures.

This is well explained here https://www.linkedin.com/posts/josefprusa_story-time-lets-talk-about-the-history-activity-7214028767202029569-OJBL

In short it should be explained as 'Everyone is a maker but only the printers that I produce are named after my surname, and not some bizarre abbreviation someone imagined'.

So yeah it makes sense only when Josef wears it 😉
