Website Searches

There is an incredible wealth of information in the PRUSA system but I struggle to find it.  Typing a search like "How to replace the heatbreak" results in no articles, for example, when in fact there is a detailed description of how to do just that, if you can find it.  I'm new to PRUSA and admittedly sometimes a tech dinosaur and/or grumpy old man,  but with the amazing information, detailed instructions, videos, etc available through this site I find it incongruous that simple searches return No Articles Found.  Is this just a newbie issue?

RE: Website Searches

Try searching the Prusa Knowledge Base!
My search

Prusa Knowledgebase, How to replace the heatbreak       (typed in the URL bar of Brave Browser (Google chrome with additional Add Blocker))
returned....

https://help.prusa3d.com/en/guide/how-to-replace-a-heatbreak-heatsink-heaterblock-mk3s-mk3s-mk2-5s-mmu2s_16104/

If you have a mini, add that tag, and you should get the mini version.

I have, using the search function provided in Knowledge Base and I get nothing.  Do I have to type the request somewhere else?

RE: Website Searches

Just use Google. "Prusa replace heatbreak" or whatever it is you're searching for.

So you're own database search engine can't find stuff??? A bit bizarre don't you think?

Well it's Prusa's, not my search engine. And what do I care what search engine I use as long as it gets me what I'm looking for.

RE: Website Searches

I get that you don't care but it would seem to me PRUSA just might want their own search engine find their own data.

You are chatting with people that share 3D printing, and PR products in particular, not Prusa Research. We don't own the database or the search engine. Members like @fuchsr, @joantabb, and others volunteer their help you get the information you need. Things would be a lot harder without such strong community support.

You would have to take your concerns about the search engine to PR.

I have no affiliation with Prusa Reasearch.

@ktb

I just went to the Knowlegebase and searched on "replace heatbreak" and got  hits:

Printer maintenance / How to replace a heatbreak/heaterblock/heatsink (MK3/MK2.5)Printer maintenance / How to replace a heatbreak/heatsink/heaterblock (MK3S+/MK3S/MK2.5S/MMU2S)

Printer maintenance / How to replace a heaterblock/heatbreak (MINI/MINI+)

I always start with a broad search and narrow it down if/as required.

Truly google is what you need to use here, the crappy search features have been brought up here for years, no one at prusa cares to fix them.

So we use google  and it works ok.

good luck

P.S. the community is pretty cool here, and helpful many will try to help you find the information you need if you ask, Like Joan did.

RE: Website Searches

very few companies seem to be able to create search engines to compete with Google.

I believe this forum is based on 'Wordpress' and it uses the wordpress search engine.  which is poor at searching the forum, and useless at searching outside wordpress.

I often think that you need to know what the answer is, before you can ask the correct search question.... but I have odd thought patterns at times!~

ON the forum, if I want to find MY thread about multicolour printing without an MMU, I search on Magpie...
because that word appears in my thread and very few other threads.

regards Joan     ( I volunteered my time, to try and reduce the Spam on the forum, ages ago. I work in My spare time, which is why moderation approvals have a flexible time scale. dependent upon when the volunteer moderators are available, prusa staff have very little input on here. it's pretty much a community lead response system)

RE: Website Searches

One very useful feature of  google is the site: option. It allows you to constrain you search to one URL. For example

site:forum.prusa3d.com fuzzy -  would search through this forum for occurrences of the word fuzzy.

RE: Website Searches

Thank everyone for the input and insight.  I'm not sure what happened or what I did differently but I tried the search bar again and amazingly it returned all kinds of articles on a number of searches that previously got nothing.  No idea what I might have changed or what's different but at least now I've got added search methods.  Thanks again.
