Review - Reusable Vacuum Seal bags with Hand Pump.

I recently took a punt on a set of reusable Vacuum seal bags from Amazon, reason being, I was finding a lot of filament did not come with a resealable bag, and this was doing my head in.

So I looked for a reusable solution that meant I did not have to keep throwing plastic in the bin and helps the enviroment a little in our rather environmentally unfriendly hobby.

I found these on Amazon, and even although the reviews were limited, I decided to give them a go.

You get a pack of 10 bags, 2 seal clips and a hand pump.

Stick the filament in the bag with a dessicant pouch, run the seal clip along to seal correctly, you can also buy humidity cards to put inside if you wish, but I did not bother.

First attempt had me confused, could not get the air to vacuum out, however there is a knack to this, you need to have the port flat on a desk, or with chunkier rolls I put something under to support the port to keep it flat, then apply firm but not too hard downward pressure, keep pumping and just slightly adjust angle and pressure until the air starts to remove.

BEFORE

Then give the port a flatten with your finger and bingo, vacuum sealed filament, takes around 30 seconds.

AFTER

This roll of Sunlu marble PLA was sealed well over a week ago, and has held pressure perfectly.

I really was not sure due to some bad reviews for similar products, but they work very well, give them a go. 👍

Tank you very much!

Looks almost like the factory-packed spools.

I have had similar results from SOVOL Vacuum Bags.  I posted a review on my site.

Was not expecting much TBH Chuck, but they have been very impressive so far.

Not sure how long the valves will last, bit too early to tell, have you had any begin to leak after heavy use?

I got a generic set off AliExpress. It's got a snub pump and I couldn't get it to evacuate air. The pouches are just a tad too small to use comfortably. The "seal" is just a sticky patch over a hole on these.  I'm glad to see there is a set that works. Meanwhile, I'm using the 10 bags as just regular resealable bags.

@clarmrrsn

I own several brands and will review each over the next month and post it to my site.  I am very happy with most and only one have one bag that has leaked.

Update: I gave it another try based on  @Clarmrrsn's description and it worked. Thought I'd tried everything, but I guess I didn't have the bags flat enough before. Now this cheap set seems to be working. I'll keep an eye on it over a few weeks. That seal seems flimsy, but happy to be wrong. Sure takes a lot of pumping. It would be nice to have a larger pump. Thanks for the motivation to check this again.

Hi, i got a similar set from E3D. They seal great, but i put the large dessicant pack that comes with a new spool of filament in against the side of the filament and Not in the centre just in case it ended up in its own sealed section isolated by the reel centre section.

If its not broken, leave it alone. Less is more.

I'm not sure where I saw this, but I had a bookmark for this vacuum system with a battery powered vacuum pump.  It got a good review wherever it was that I saw it.  Price and quality seem reasonable.  This is a link for the whole bundle, but bags and pump can also be bought separately.

Nanovac is probably the best.  I also like Vacbird pumps and baggies.
