The problem with using an RPi as a controller is that it is doing all the other stuff in the operating system which affects the timing of the io pins, whereas an AVR just carries out a set of instructions taking the same time to do the same things ad-finitum (At least if you program it that way).

This is where a beaglebone could be much better.

As I said there are reasons that it might not be the best option. Again, my argument isn't for them to use the RPi, just that more powerful doesn't have to be more expensive. Even your example of the Beaglebone (while more than the RPi) is still cheap and again just needs a daughter board to support the components it needs to drive. There are (again) reasons why the BB wouldn't be ideal to a application specific board and firmware though.

Ok, I understand where you're coming from. It might work on a small scale with some single drivers because RPi is offering SPI and I2C.

But once you dive deeper, you will see the requirements like real time system and 5V. That's more or less a hack to do it with RPi.

Fascinating topic.  I would love to see Prusa port to something like this with the Manga touch screen.

Normal people believe that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain’t broke, it doesn’t have enough features yet.

Pah, no Revolve yet and already working on another board, the Recore

I'm beginning to think the Revolve is not going to see the light of day.

They must have moved them or blocked them as it showed prusa circuit boards, although they are probably now available on GitHub.

Yes they are: https://github.com/prusa3d
