Uploading makes of your own prints to earn Prusameters is NOT permitted and will be reported, ultimately it could get you banned.

I like the badge reward system, but...

i got a print with 2 makes and no downloads? Serious? Thats not fair!
Don't think the download ticker is right.

I've had the same thing happen to me more than once.  The download counter is definitely wacky and it's been that way for at least a year.

I just tested it by posting a new Print.  No points 🙁

Although there's no telling when the cycle rolls over.

You mean 'make' right? I uploaded 2 on the 4th and got my meters.

I suspected that these people had downloaded your design of of thingiverse and decided to post their makes here. But it seems that you didn't upload your design to thingiverse. So it seems that the download counter is indeed not accurate.

You however did upload a make and put it under your own print. This feels unneseccarry as you can just upload photo's of your prints to the main page of your design.

May I ask: did you get prusameters for both the print as the make? If so, this does seem to be a loophole for getting more prusameters.

No, I uploaded a newly designed Print the other day and got nothing.  Not a Make.

I did however post a Make this morning and I did receive the Prusameters.

Ah, I misunderstood because you were talking about the cycle rolling over. For prints this shouldn't matter right? You don't seem to have uploaded a total 10 prints after the new system was introduced so you should get 10 prusameters for your most recent upload no matter what.

I'm still trying to figure out the subtleties of Da-Rules with regards to scoring Prusameters for my uploaded models.

  • I understand I only get Prusameters for the first 10 models I upload & that this is a 1-time event. After I upload 10, there is no more score just for adding more models - ever. It appears that models I've uploaded in the past do not count, because I've received no points for them. Correct?
  • Once those models are uploaded, they can gain additional Prusameters if people download & like them. But I need to get at least 30 downloads & 3 likes to get any Prusameters.
  • Is that per-model, or for all 10 uploaded models in total? If, for some  30-day period, all 10 of my uploaded models were to get 29 downloads & 3 likes, I still get nothing?
  • Are my previous models, that did not count toward my 10 lifetime one-time uploads, eligible to collect Prusameters based on downloads & likes?
  • Are future models that I upload in excess of my 10 lifetime one-time upload eligible to collect Prusameters based on downloads & likes?
  • Or, are all of my models' downloads & likes counted together every 30 days? For example, if I have uploaded 200 models over my lifetime & each of them get's 2 uploads & 10% of them are liked at least once, would I get 200 Prusameters for that period?

I have a lot of the same questions.....

Is that per-model, or for all 10 uploaded models in total? If, for some  30-day period, all 10 of my uploaded models were to get 29 downloads & 3 likes, I still get nothing?  That's correct.  Each model that gets 30 & 3 gets 10 Prusameters each month.  If you've got a couple popular models you can earn a nice income every month.

Are my previous models, that did not count toward my 10 lifetime one-time uploads, eligible to collect Prusameters based on downloads & likes?  Yes they are.  All models are eligible.

Are future models that I upload in excess of my 10 lifetime one-time upload eligible to collect Prusameters based on downloads & likes?  All models are eligible.

Or, are all of my models' downloads & likes counted together every 30 days? For example, if I have uploaded 200 models over my lifetime & each of them get's 2 uploads & 10% of them are liked at least once, would I get 200 Prusameters for that period?  If a model doesn't get 30 & 3, you'll get nothing.  There is no cumulative count.  And the count resets each month.

Truth be told, I took a shortcut.  Since you're limited to getting paid for 10 Prints only, it didn't matter if I got paid now or later.  I chose to get paid now for about 7 of my old Prints.  I did this by editing the Print, saving it as a draft, then re publishing it.  This doesn't effect downloads or any history, it just pays you 10 prusameters.  Like I said, I basically chose to get paid for some of my old models instead of the new ones.

They should change the system though.  ALL uploaded models past, present, and new with at least 10 downloads should get 10 prusameters.  That way no one is rewarded for uploading crap models.

RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!

I for one have had enough of this, i will take no further part, it just a publicity gimmick to sell/promote filament. i do not need rewards,to share my designs, with anyone who finds them of interest., My hobby is to create a design, and then print it to see if it meets design intent.

just as a note, i have aroun 450 on thingiverse, all of which i have printed, ecxept for some of the steam/beam/co2/air,  engine parts i converted to solid models, from old model makerx drawings, for my steam engine friends to produce with cnc if needed. i saved as STL some of the parts that would stand 3d printing as alternative, and test purposes.

Thingiverse has many faults, but is better at moment than this

I will continue to design and share with the Prusa community.  We survived Covid together so we're like family.

I don't create a bunch of new designs anyway so I'm not missing out on much.  I only have 2 or 3 a month in me.  I already have half a dozen designs that provide a steady income of Prusameters.  So I will continue to participate with Prints and Makes when I can, and just be thankful for a free roll of filament every now and then.

However, I am convinced that the more models uploaded to the site the more people will download them and the more people will print them and the more people will buy Mr. Prusa's filament so if you reward those who print, you reward those who draw in the same way [(maybe those who draw useful things) even if it's not my case].

Moreover, if the site allows you to publish a print of your own model as a make, the problem is not who tries to cheat the site but the site that has a bug.

If you can get Jo Prusa to buy it, I'll take it. Good luck.

As stated in the announcement blog:

"...And to add a bit more fun into the mix, there are some hidden unlockables – such as the possibility to get a downloadable 3D model of your badge. How to get it? You’ll need to figure it out yourself, we are not going to spoil the surprise. 😉..."

Unlockable probably means you have to meet some criteria, such as achieving that badge to get your badge model. Once you have it, you can add your own name however you want. Maybe in flashing LEDs, or glow in the dark? Make it your own, not some boilerplate thingy. Or they could hire me to add customized names and I assure you they would be very customized. 😉

Makes get counted by calendar month right? I wonder how much an uptick we will see in makes at the start of the new year. 😉

I already uploaded 10 makes this month and I am waiting for the next to continue posting others.

Why wait?

Here is an idea! I will give you credit every month for each verified Make (up to 10 per month) you don't upload. Less work and you are still getting credits worth just as much. 😉

RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!

I took (wasted) my time browsing through the new prints before logging on here. Seriously? How many prints of round discs with 4 holes in it do we need? There were a few prints that were nice, but I am sure I missed some others that were just as nice, but the noise distracted me. And what about what I perceived as an attempt to game the system and earn rewards not entitled to?

There are a few different camps here, and I do not expect anyone will change over to a different one.

There is one that thinks the reward/badges are not good for anyone, including Prusa.

There is one that thinks quantity is better than quality(think of the usual suspect websites).

There are those that do not care.

Then there is the ONLY ONE THAT COUNTS, and that is Josef Prusa. His company, his name, his money, and the one with the final say.

The reason it's being flooded with buttons at the moment is that is the subject of the current competition:  https://blog.prusaprinters.org/introducing-flash-contests_61600

There has certainly been a significant increase in the number of designs being uploaded, some because people are migrating designs from other sites, some because people don't understand what the site is for and certainly some who are attempting to game the system.
