RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!

Why does the system reward 9 points for a funnel and vase which have something like 13 makes but I get 5 points for a more complicated 3 piece spout of which I'm the first make(r)?

And now 1 points for being the first maker of a funnel. What an odd system, dare I say the points are randomized.

Why aren't there more 3D printable models for the awards?  I know the Printables Manic has a 3D model but I would like a model for hitting Star of Design 5: Red Giant.

I just found out you can download and print your badges, but I already have a bunch. Is it possible to download past badges that we already have?

If not, I'd be forever thankful if someone could share some of the early badges...you should be able to see what I already have.

Go to your profile, scroll down a bit to your badges, click one and the overview should show you all the previous badges with a small link to download a badge for printing.

I only realized from this thread that the badges are printable, which is such a neat feature! Even knowing it's possible, it took me a little hunting to find where the model was linked, so it would be great to see that advertised better. Maybe when you earn your first badge, you could also get an alert/email that tells you your badges are printable and explains where to find the file?

I thought getting prusameter for merely uploading a new model would give you 10 Prusameters only for the first 10 uploaded models. I surpassed that number however and still get these points. I am not complaining but found that a bit confusing.

I don't understand the rationale of requiring both downloads AND likes for a model instead of downloads OR likes.  I've got models with a 100 downloads but no likes and I don't see why it's not reward worthy because people were excited to download my model but didn't think to click like first.  Any chance of an explanation or even better an adjustment?

I don't know, the current system makes sense to me. I don't download a whole lot but most of what I download turns out not to be what I expected, from missing functionality to bad design. I don't see much rationale in rewarding just for downloads when it doesn't seem to provide enough value for the people downloading it to click on like. Of course there's inertia to overcome, and in fact the system acknowledges that as it only requires 10 likes for 100 downloads and even only 20 for 400 downloads.

RE:

@fuchsr Actually your reply doesn't make much sense to me because there are Likes and there are review ratings and I'd think that your goal of representexpectations of the design after printing it are MUCH better suited to ratings than likes.  I see Likes as someone clicking on like when they first see a design even when they don't collect, download, or print it so I see Likes are far less valuable than anything else.

Fair enough. Just shows that different people interpret the meaning of "likes" differently.

@fuchsr That's exactly why I'm suggesting the change from Likes AND Downloads to Likes AND/OR Downloads to allow for the differences in interpretation.

I think the system is busted (primarily because it completely resets every month and therefore never rewards useful models that see a steady trickle of downloads and likes but just never hit viral levels of attention), but requiring both likes and downloads isn't part of it. The ratio also seems very reasonable.

If 100 people have downloaded your model but not one of them has liked it, there's probably something wrong with the model. But I'm honestly not sure what model you're talking about, unless it's under a different name, because none of your models on this account meet that description (your top three downloaded models are currently at 207 downloads and 38 likes; 100 downloads and 20 likes; and 85 downloads and 23 likes). Are you maybe confusing likes with makes or ratings/reviews? The latter aren't involved in the algorithm at all.

RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!

I'm in the middle of addressing a different issue with my own designs - I first listed them on Thingiverse back in the day and some of them racked up 1k downloads which of course benefited me not at all.  I then imported them to Printables but didn't delete them from Thingiverse because I didn't want to break people who had already collected them.  The problem is that Thingiverse still seems to be the first place a lot of people look for stuff and so they keep finding it there which distracts from anything that gets me points towards a reward.  I've started adding a message at the top of the thingi descriptions that the latest version of the model is at <printables URL> and replaced the STL with a dummy.  Will see if that provokes a pushback.

But yes I do see that models I do have on Printables have been collecting Likes in proportion with Downloads, though I still think that Likes don't represent much value compared to downloads or ratings.

Which is why you only need a ratio of 5–10% as many likes as downloads, which I think is entirely fair, and certainly necessary. People shouldn't be rewarded for uploading clickbait trash (which would be a model with a large number of downloads and no likes), but they also shouldn't be punished for downloaders' failure to go through the more involved process of posting a make or even just a rating. Primarily basing rewards on downloads while tempering that with minimal like requirements as well—the thing that requires the least effort from downloaders to show their actual appreciate of rather than just initial interest in a model—makes total sense.

> that the latest version of the model is at <printables URL> and replaced the STL with a dummy.
That is like trolling people and asking to be banned on thinkingverse.

Personally I would rather prefer to get points for makes done by others for given model, because this is a best validation if the model actually works.

I guess Printables was already aware of the flawed prusament points system, and people were not even eager to push like button, not to mention to publish makes.

Then Printables introduced Clubs where you can sell models or get donations. Does it work? I have no idea.
The problem is that most people are going to do insane amount of things just not to pay real money if they can, to the level that their efforts outpace the money they would spend if buying model 10-fold or more.
It's the classic problem of 'it is easy to produce, but much harder to sell'.

See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.

RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!

@_kaszpir_ I agree it's not a perfect solution, but the intent isn't trolling.  The designs I'm referring to have been on Thingiverse for years and have been added to collections.  So I want to move the design to the new platform, but I don't want to leave the people that already bookmarked the design with a broken (or disappeared) link.  The only way I could think to do that was to leave something in its place and a comment where to find the current location.  I'll also mention that none of my designs cost money, wherever they are they are no charge to download.

So, I've been snooping around, trying to figure out all the ins and outs (and occasionally getting more tangled than my filament on a bad day). What's the deal with these badges? Are they like the scout badges I never managed to get as a kid? Because I'm totally ready to earn my "3D Printing Wizard" badge this time around!

RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!

I just noticed that the "3× Prusament spool voucher" is gone from the available list of rewards.

Was that an intentional choice? Because while I could simply switch over to invidiual Prusament spool vouchers instead, that would force me to have each of the spools sent as an individual package, tripling shipping cost and not doing the environment any good either ...

(Obviously, I'd really like to have the "3× Prusament spool voucher" option back. Many thanks in advance!)
