I really don't care if they make improvements to the search engine or not. I just use Google or STLfinder, which work  pretty well, if I'm looking for anything specific. But I admit I gave up browsing for new stuff on printables because most of the new things seems like the low quality or just plain stupid results from their competitions. The recent LCD knob competition is a prime example. I wish I could simply unsee some of the stupidity produced there...

I agree that the overall quality of the submitted models has gone downhill since they got on this contest kick a while back.  Quantity does not equal quality and they need to go for more signal and less noise.

To Canada FedEx is $25 and our duty is $30 charge just to process.. so ends up about $60 getting 2 free spools. I can get 3 spools of Eryone here for that..

The Prusameter idea  is really nice but in my case the cost of getting 2 free spools exceeds what I can buy 2 good spools local so I doubt I’ll use the incentive.

The equation has really changed for me since they allowed to trade in prusameters for two-spool coupon codes. Now I can get two spools for USD 15 shipping, which is a great deal.

It seems the options to arange by amount of downloads and likes have been replaced by popularity. I’m sure this has been done to give makers with lower download amounts a chance to get into the top results. I’m not a fan of this as the search results are completely dependent on the algorith behind it.

I’d like to see the search by downloads option to return.

Yes, the search is really a bit awkward. My Catan set gets listed really low and that's just self focused but I would love to know why. It has more likes, more views and more downloads than most of the entries listed above when I search for "Catan". It would be not really a big deal if it only was about my entry but the search engine is equally quirky for everything else too. One really gets much better results if one uses google to search pictures specifically on printables.com for anything.

Sorting the search by "popularity" works a bit better indeed. A lot more of the top relevant entries rank at the very top then. For whatever reason my entry is still ranked quite low behind lots of models with substantially fewer views, likes and downloads. But whatever, I guess the best to do is search printables on google or so anyway.

The Prusameter idea  is really nice but in my case the cost of getting 2 free spools exceeds what I can buy 2 good spools local so I doubt I’ll use the incentive. . It has fueled the signal to noise ratio to become so low that it is very difficult to find quality prints. Every submission needs to be curated. If the author doesn’t have an actual model made. Take it down. It is not a cad site. If there are no detailed print parameters, take it down. I think there are multiple submissions for every letter of the alphabet. If curation isn’t brutal and timely the site will get away from Prusa and become another thingiverse.

The cost of shipping to Australia seems prohibitive - but I like the product and it's not a HUGE amount of extra money over a year's worth of printing with quality filament, so I'll happily cash in my prusametres with my next order of seven or eight kilos.

As to the models - I couldn't agree more - if there's no photo of the printed model I don't bother, and it would be good if that could be part of the curation system.  I know that earlier this year some were posting drawings only, then photo "makes" of their own models - more I think as a misunderstanding of the terminology than in gaming the system - but at least in that case there was evidence that the models worked.

I'm not sure about it being difficult to find quality prints.   Admittedly I mostly search for things as I need them and often design "a better mousetrap" as a result, but there's an awful lot of quality there.

Yeah, 2 spools alone in an order to Canada is certainly not worth it.. I ended up using 700 points for 2 spools, but added various spares I figured I'd need.. some bearings, belts, nozzles, a part cooling fan, and my friend also added 2 spools and some parts for himself in the order. In the end with $45 USD shipping and then $38 paid to DHL(!) my "free" spools came to $13CAD each in the end which is much more palatable.

But, this is when you have other things to buy to divide up that shipping cost. I don't think that will be the case next time. Add on top of that our crappy exchange rate and it's a tough pill to swallow.

RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!

I know people most people work very hard on their designs and I know it should not bother me as much as it does. Yet I still get upset when I see people abuse the reward system and that is beyond what numerous people have stated. Now it seems one can post say 100 or so models and there is not a single file model file or picture, occasionally a redirect to another site. I would hate to see Printables become worse than a poor version of thingiverse 2.0.
Rant now over.
Now if I could only learn more on how to use openscad (tough when you get older :))
Where is my XL? Coming soon?

I finally redeemed my first prusaments!! But it says I have to wait for the voucher. It's been more than 24h and I didn't receive the voucher.
Is this normal? how long should it take?

Thanks!

If you click on your badges you will see some have an option to download the model of the badge, depending on the level. Just a note: We are asked not to share our badge models or pics. Hope that helps!

RE: Prusa Badges and Rewards... What you want to know!

So it was certainly not my intent to cheat the Prusameter system. I thought I was playing by the rules until item 4 of "Tips to avoid voucher rejection: 4. Don't upload an excessive amount of makes of miniature few-gram models." sank into my brain. I have uploaded about 20 makes of very small models to gain the 100 points per month thinking this was a valid way to earn points. I have not tried to claim a voucher and don't want to be banned or labelled as a cheater. So I have a few questions:

1) What is considered an "excessive" amount.

2) How big is big enough? 5g, 10g 100g?

3) Is there any way to subtract the points gained from small models before submitting the voucher request?

Thanks

I am now embarrassed to say I just uploaded a tyre valve cap as a "make" today - but it really does work well and it's a great print and should be recognised as such.

I don't think that this system is designed to stop genuine "makes", and many of my models and makes are quite small - for instance I have four or five makes of different airtag holders, BUT each of those is in use and I don't upload makes unless I actually use the item and I take a bit of effort in photographing them as well.   I do think that's different from flooding your feed with the maximum number of quick-print makes each month to game the system.

I hope so anyway!    Cheers!

Printing miniatures of other people's models just to collect a prusameter paycheck is absolutely cheating the system whether you meant to or not.  Those Makes will be deducted from your account when they review your voucher request (I assume because I don't work there and I've never had a voucher request denied).

If the model is designed small and you're printing at 100% scale, then I'd call it 100% fair.  Cheating is making something that's clearly only made for the purpose of collecting prusameters.

Nothing is more infuriating than when someone prints one of my models at 50% scale then gives it a poor rating and attaches a pic of their shitty Make.  Or, they open the 3mf on some rando slicer and the custom modifiers import as one big solid block.  Another poor rating and photographic proof. 🙁  And this was AFTER I provided a clean stl because of the first couple idiots that did it!

 And yeah where's my XL?

@matt-boyer Just to be clear, I never scaled any models to make them smaller, I just printed small models at 100%, photographed them and uploaded as makes in good faith. I use some of them, like small scrapers, hooks and toys. Many of them are larger models that I use every day. I'll print larger models from now on, but it would be nice to have a guideline on what counts and what doesn't.

Just assume that ANY model uploaded merely to gain Prusameters is unwanted and merely adds to the pollution of the database.

Don't do it.

So you're saying that no one should upload a make that they wouldn't have printed and submitted a photo if the bonus system weren't in place. Seems counterintuitive to the assumed purpose of increasing user engagement with the website. It still takes a significant amount of time to earn points via make uploads. I've become a lot more engaged since introduction of the point system. I just don't want to be accused as a cheater.
