Printables and suspicious files

Greetings;

As some users have seen, there are bot accounts posting files on printables. These accounts are created on a daily basis and are quickly removed. The files they upload are of a different format other than STL / 3MF. The printables team are aware of the situation and are working on it with a high priority. Further details than that, I can not comment on, but I wanted to say that this situation is a high priority, and is being worked on.

I understand the frustrations in this and I appreciate everyone's patience with this.

Thanks

Shane (AKA FromPrusa)

Things seem better. Though I am still pretty sure those bots are getting through. I mean, I just saw a model of a little desk top robotic arm vice grip tagged as political...

I also saw models that have .obj files and then 2 additional files that were gobbledygook text.zip and those seem suspicious as well.

I look at any new model posted by a user level 1 or 2 with suspicion.

Vehemently against AI. I've seen that film. It ends badly.

RE: Printables and suspicious files

And wouldn't that be enough to start with a quick analysis of the uploaded files? All types of print files have their own defined structure given by the file type. Allow only files of predefined types (stl, step, jpg, f3d and others) and not that there will be a file in the middle of the archive referring to some external (decrypting) software. In my opinion, this is the first sign of mischief in the form of a bot and usually a way to get some crap into your computer. And in case of any irregularities, delete the entire post, including the account from which it was uploaded. Maybe some will shout that a useful post can also be deleted, but that's part of the point because "when a forest is cut down, chips fly". On the other hand, the uploaded content is in 80% of cases nonsense that if it hadn't been created, nothing would have happened. And if a contributor thinks this rule is strict, he can appeal to a manual review. A bot will never do this. Please take all of my talk as suggestions only, I hope that the system engineers will come up with something, just as they (hopefully) managed to do with this forum, and I just hope that it will continue to work in the future.
