Print left over night got stuck to the sheet

Hi! I'm wondering if I've done something stupid, or if there was a problem with my "Double sided PEI"-sheet.

I left a print overnight, and removed it today, probably 10-12 hours after it was finished. It was really stuck, but I bent the sheet a bit harder, and then part of the coating came with the print at one place, and another part of the print broke off and was still stuck to the sheet.

Is this an error with me letting the print stay for to long before removing, or am i looking at a production malfunction?

Filament was Prusament PETG.

What did you use as a release agent?

PETG on the smooth PEI sheet requires a release agent as it sticks too well.  Something like windex applied as a barrier to reduce adhesion is common or a layer of the glue stick supplied with the printer.  They are used to reduce adhesion rather than increase it.

It is in the manual and all the instructions I have seen from Prusa mention it too.

RE: Print left over night got stuck to the sheet

I made a similar mistake when I got my MK3S as I was not familiar with the smooth PEI coated sheet.  I had an ABS print stuck too well and I got impatient and used a metal kitchen implement, similar to what we did removing prints from glass plates at the local 'makerspace' and a few pieces of the PEI came right off as well.  🙁  Lesson learned the hard way.  I realized that most ABS prints of that type will pop off if cooled close to room temperature and this was very warm.  🙁

Yes, PETg should have a release agent, and I'll do yet another call-out for the Layerneer Bed Weld, which works quite well as an adhesive for tricky PLA prints with small-footprint supports and as a good release agent for PETg which does not leave tell-tale patterns on the underside of the prints.

Aha, there is my mistake, I thought the springiness of the plate was enough for both PLA and PETG. TIL, I guess, good thing the plate has two sides... 🙂

Thanks for the help, guys!

@mteilgard

If you get a part stuck again,
Try dribbling some IPA, around the joint with the build plate, let it sit a while, and then try releasing again by flexing the build plate.

the IPA tends to loosen the bond
