New user, how do I find a model for expanding spool holder
I bought the recycled spool along with some other narrow width spools. I cannot use the provided mounting hardware because the spool holder isn't long enough (maybe not sturdy enough) for the wider spool.
Anyhow, it dawned on me that perhaps there was a printable replacement that was maybe 4" wider that I could replace one of the shorter spool holders with and I started looking but all I could find were completely new spool holders. I would love to look into printing only a longer "side arm" to replace one of the two shorter sizes that came with the printer.
Also, I'm feeling quite proud of myself for building the printer kit and having it work right away. I have done a lot of these kinds of DIY projects (mostly electronics) and always find mistakes and deal with a lot of trouble shooting to isolate and fix build issues. So far, this printer has worked really well and its been a blast to use!
Load the standard spool holder file then stretch it in just the width dimension - you may need to unlock the scale factors.

You don’t say which printer you have so please note that my comments are limited to the MK3S+ that I built about a year ago.
The dual spool holder on the MK3S+ is an injection molded part and not a part that was 3D printed like most of the other plastic parts in the kit.
There are a variety of alternate spool holders on the Printables website you can try. I printed two that have individual ‘arms’ with roller wheels the spools sit on. The arms can be adjusted to whatever clearance dimension you need for the spools you use.
I posted a pic of the holder I printed in another thread. If I can find the pic and/or the link, I’ll leave another post. But just search for spool holders in Printables and you’ll find much to choose from.

Sorry for the slow response. I am indeed using the MK3S+ and now struggling to get it back to working condition! Thank you for this tip about options for making the wider holder sorted out!
Once I'm printing again, I'll give this a try. I also noticed something that I hadn't before, which is the recycled spools are not PLA but PETG, which could explain why the quality of the prints with this recycled filament were so poor compared to PLA. I'm looking forward to getting it right and trying again!
