Micro SD card industrial standard for use in Raspberry Pi for Octoprint

Hallo,

I have lots of Raspberry Pi's at home - 3 are running Octoprint. Until now I used  normal SD-cards you can order every where. Yesterday one of my Octoprint Pi's stopped booting. No problem - I have a backup of the Pi and also spare micro-SD-cards and so I could fix the problem. I then checked the old SD-Card - it's dead.

Now my question:

I would like to by micro-SD-cards in industrial standard hoping to get more lifetime out of them. I need storage in the range of 8 to 64 GB. Someone here who could recommend a brand and specific model he made good experiences with?

Best regards, Clemens

I had a so called "micro" server(cheap and old NUC, <10W/h )  and mounted a NFS [ network file system] on the raspberries where are frequent R/W operations (like timelapse). This way, I help SD cards a bit more with living. You could also move some frequent read/write operations on a USB drive. However currently I don't use raspberry for printing anymore.

Anyway, I suppose it may be a better option for you to have one so called micro server and few octoprint instances running on it ... if all the printers are reachable by a usb cables (5m max).

Probably prohibitively expensive but there's a post on the OctoPrint forum about attaching a hard drive to a Pi.

I have been using these micro SD cards for years in all technical equipment and also in my cell phone and have never had a problem with them until today: https://www.kingston.com/austria/en/memory-cards/industrial-temperature-microsd-uhs-i

I only recommend what I have tested and compared myself. Cheap noname cards are a lottery game. Sometimes they work, sometimes not. I rely on reliability in 3D printing and elsewhere.

wbr,

Karl

Hallo Karl,

where do you source these cards - that is not the typical product sold on the big A.
