just started getting stop to change filament, even tho I did not set it up to change filament

for some reason my printer has decided to wants to stop and heat, even tho heat is displayed as correct. Then it also has randomly decided to stop and have me do a filament change. Multiple times !!!!!!!!!!!!!!  this is irritating to say the least.

Anyone else out there seeing random stops???

Turn off the filament sensor in the settings menu and see if that helps.  If it does, then blow/clean out the filament sensor and or adjust it if you have a MK3s.  If not then you can try other things.

Same issue here, newly build Mk3s.
Already disabled the sensor in the menu but still gives the filament change randomly.

Ok.  a bit more info would be helpful.  Have you been printing ok before and this just started or is it a brand new kit or printer that has never worked?  Are you sure you also have the latest firmware correct for your printer (e.g. MK3s VS MK3)

If it is brand new, have you checked to ensure it is assembled correctly?  It is easy to plug then the wrong spot on the rambo board, the links above cover the testing for that and you may want to check again.  It also could be a short in the cable.

If the links above are not helpful, I suggest logging into the Eshop and using the chat function...

Sorry I could not be more helpful.

I'm having the exact same problem. I was printing a stand design and it printed perfect. I went to print a second one and it worked fine also. The third print the printer stopped and wanted me to change the filament (same gcode as before). It did this multiple times until the print failed.

I'm trying it again on another MK3 I have to see if it will work.

The printer that has the problem is my first of three MK3 printers and has many many hours of print time on it. It is currently running 3.7.1 firmware.

Turning the filament sensor on or off has no effect.

Ok, So if the sensor is not dirty and it is properly assembled, then it could be the type of filament that can cause those errors, some transparent and gloss

So if the sensor is not dirty and it is properly assembled, then it could be the type of filament that can cause those errors, some transparent and glossy filaments can cause that behavior.  Have you tried a different filament color/type to see if it happens?

If you go to the support menu on the LCD screen and scroll down a bit to sensor info if there is no filament it should be 0 if there is filament it should be a 1.  Check both with filament loaded and unloaded and see if it is a 0 with no filament and a 1 when filament is loaded to check and see.  below is a link to the MK3S manual 3.11 page 65 discusses filament sensor troubleshooting.

If those do not fix it, they you should log into the eshop and use the chat to contact support.

Also the hardware and software subforum in the MK3 Section of the forum has more posts on the filament sensor issues so you could also check there and see if someone had a similar issue and solution.

Honestly, I have not heard of it not being either a dirty sensor or with the MK3S adjustment needed to the mechanism, but I do not see why it could not be.  When you do get it fixed, please be sure to post back the resolution to help others who may encounter the problem in the future..

Here is a search i did in the assembly and first prints subforum for "filament Sensor"  Lots of posts, many from a few months ago...  It looks like if you have a MK3s there are issues with the size of the lever and minor adjustments to be made to get it to work....

I hope that helps!

No, this is a non S version.

So I moved the filament that I was using and the SD card to another printer and the part printed great. I even made two of them. The first printer just refuses to print the part. I've decided to go ahead and upgrade the extruder to the S version and see if that makes any difference.

What puzzles me is why the display will occasionally show "Prusa i3 is okay" and then display "Heating" even though the temps were correct. It would do this several times and then tell me to change the filament. Again, this happens with the sensor on or off.

The filament is opaque white (3D Solutech) PLA. I've printed several spools of it before this problem occurred.

@jbinfl

After several online chat sessions and 3 tear downs of the extruder I was able to resolve the issue. Prusa sent me a new Sensor that did not resolve the problem. I was then sent the complete extruder plastic parts kit and new ball bearing. I compared the printed ball bearing part and found the new one to be smaller, the ball bearing stuck out more. This fixed the issue as the filement pushed the ball out of the pocket more and activated the 1 setting and 0 setting when removed. I still had to play with the sensor screw and placement but it's now working well!
