How to make great time lapse videos without a Raspberry Pi

It's still impossible to get a reasonably priced Raspberry Pi in my country, so I decided to get OctoPrint running on my Android phone.

First you need to install Octo4A: https://github.com/feelfreelinux/octo4a . Install the APK from Releases.

You need an OTG adapter, I got this from AliExpress.

You also need some kind of tripod: I printed this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2489429

After you have OctoPrint working, it's very useful to setup PrusaSlicer to export and print directly via your phone now running OctoPrint: https://help.prusa3d.com/article/sending-files-to-octoprint-duet_1663

Some tricks: In order to install plugins to OctoPrint, on your phone enable "Install Plugin Extras" Options. This will install gcc, py3-devel and other required items. I installed a plugin for more accurate estimation of time remaining. Then I installed OctoLapse. However, the latest OctoLapse won't install due to compilation errors, but there's a branch that works fine: https://github.com/FormerLurker/Octolapse/issues/888#issuecomment-1476793545

Essential reading: OctoLapse Getting started. Once this is working, to get better quality videos, I changed from using the default libxvid to libx264. This results in much improved quality, but it may require a somewhat newer phone. It works fine on my Huawei P30 Pro. In order for OctoLapse to work, you have to enable Verbose gcode in PrusaSlicer.

Been using Octoprint (on Pi) for years, but never heard of Octo4A before.  Very cool!  Thanks for sharing the info.
