How much do you 3D print to 3D print?
Hi,
just recently bought my first printer and I realized, that lot of the prints are now various gadgets around printing it self... Like, 2nd print was spatula, 3rd nozzle replacement tool... I (independently) found Samla boxes for filaments, but now I need the clips and feet to slide on carpet, looking at the inserts for silica gel, 8hr print to hold the print plates, to name a few... And totally more projects like that in my head...
I don't mind it, I just find it funny... So I wonder, what is experience of the others and if it improves with time 😀
Cheers

Hey there,
It's completely normal to find yourself printing a lot of gadgets and tools for your 3D printer when you first start out. Many 3D printing enthusiasts experience this phase where their initial projects revolve around enhancing the printer itself. It’s part of the fun and learning process!
As you become more comfortable with the printer and its capabilities, you'll likely branch out into different types of projects. Many people start with practical items to optimize their printing setup and then gradually move on to more creative and diverse prints. It’s like a rite of passage in the 3D printing community!
Don't worry, your projects will evolve with time as you gain more experience and confidence. Plus, there's a huge community of makers out there sharing tips and ideas, so you'll never run out of inspiration.

I did at first but not so much now.
But I don't see it as a problem, I make things, either on the printer or out of wood, as a hobby and it is the making that is the hobby not the end result. So as long as I enjoy the process it is irrelevant what I make.
My wood workshop has loads of things like storage etc. that I have made in it.

My friend often teases me about this! lol
Ive printed all kinds of stuff to help me 3D print more stuff!
My last big project was for my BambuLab A1 - a full enclosure for the spools on the AMS Lite unit:
Im now currently printing a full drybox/buffer system for my Prusa MMU3 setup........lol
Once that is done I have an AMS stand that I want to construct for the Bambu again, to mount it above the printer - after that I should be done!!!.......I hope!.......lol
--> MK4 - MK4S - MINI+ - MMU3 - Accelerometer Guide - BambuLab A1 Combo <--

For me, almost all of the prints I started out with were accessories or benchmarks for my machine. But after those initial few months passed, pretty much all of my prints are things not related to my 3D printer.
RE: How much do you 3D print to 3D print?
I started with a few toys and fidgets, and then stuff for my printer. Not much, but I used this for learning some CAD work (Onshape) as well. Once I had learned a bit more, most of my prints are practical, for other projects or around the house. In the end, the printer is a tool, but a fun tool 🙂

Thank you for the replies. As I said, it is not bothering my, I just find it funny.
And the good point is the use of wood-working skills to support your wood working. My dad did that a lot too. Just the balance is shifted, I suppose...
That being said, I realized an interesting thing: my grandfather did lot of stuff as hobby with metal. My dad does with wood, and now I am continuing that with plastic 🙂
